As unfortuate as it is, I can't say there weren't other things going on around One Piece during this arc. Prehaps it will pick up later. I may be a bit bias since I too lost trust in Oda, but the world of one piece was sold to me as a place where Oda may introduce something I like, and the wrong editors/PR staff will try to make me feel bad about choosing to like something/character. Why like anything in this world if it will leave ill feelings?

I think there's gotta be other factors as to why One Piece sales are going down. I haven't seen any other indicators of its popularity waning down in Japan so it's hard to tell.

Its length. A lot of manga sales is the amount of people buying older manga to catch up to the current manga but no one wants to spend over a literal thousand dollars to catch up. People will just find it illegally.
Compare that to AoT, Chainsaw Man, and Jujutsu Kaiden which there first volumes were some of the highest single volumes sold this year their manga sales are going to be higher.

Yeah it’s why American comics have reboots is so that they give new start off points for people to buy and collect at.
It’s honestly why oda said you can start reading starting this saga when egghead began because the publishers realized this fact as well and sent that out to boost sales.

I'll honestly never forgive Oda for this. Fucking disgraceful of him. Especially given he did so much for Sanji prior but won't for Zoro? I have zero hopes for Usopp at Elbaf given how Oda has handled him post Dressrosa too. Franky at Egghead with Vegapunk is a completely dead cause at this point too.

It always has been, I turned to here and Piratefolk because they were some of the only places along with Drizzts channel and community, where you could actually speak criticially about OP and not be buried under spam of hate mail/death threats/insults and just vitrol of all kinds and feral mob mentality.
Yet ironically Goda's Angels call us the cult with their overwhelming constant sense of lack of self awareness, irony, critical thinking etc. Its truly poetic and yet frustrating.
Yeah both of those final arcs, wars, finales were FAR better than Wano and the SHEER IRONY IS, I HATED those final arcs SO MUCH that I dropped Naruto and Bleach for years and didn't ever want to talk or think about them! And I hate Wano MORE than that by far! Wano hurt me far more! Wano and post Wano even actually (cough).
At least Bleach is on a massive well deserved redemption arc and well Naruto, the less said the better unfortunately. But those shows, those series were genuinely brilliant and fantastic in their primes, their peaks. I'll never forget that, no matter how hard they fell, just like Icarus. The higher you fly, the closer to the sun, the more you will burn and the harder you will fall. The bigger they are, the harder they fall ofc.
Exactly man, could not say it better myself. I do like Kuma a lot more too now. He's always been awesome, great and such but I did feel Oda was being very egregious with the writing for him and Bonney but this FB has really helped improved their characters for me a lot. I still fucking hate this flashback immensely though, even more than Oden's lmfao.
Oden's flashback was so "fucking good" Oda had to rely on Roger and Whitebeard to fucking hard carry it lmao. Oden such a great character, he had to rely on 2 of the biggest goats and most important characters in the series as crutches for his character. Oden had some excellent moments but my god, the way Oden wrote him was like a narcissistic self insert at times. Or an insert of someone Oda was secretly deeply in love with and thus deeply in the closet too /s.

Webcomics have been a massive threat/rival to manga too lately and since they're digital and some series at least get new chapters daily, manga can't keep up. I've seen series on there with millions of views and some of them are even getting their own anime like Tower of God and Solo Levelling did ofc.

As Yasheen said too, imagine collecting nearly 1100 chapters worth of volumes for a series alone? Plus all the immense spoilers online for those not caught up, including how Gear 5 was blatantly advertised everywhere by Shueisha and Toei and w/e thus spoiling it for everyone who didn't know of it yet regardless?
People are generally far less able and willing to spend post-pandemic and with rising inflations, economic crises, and just personal commitments/responsibilities too of course, so they will be buying less and relying on piracy and free alternatives instead like webcomics or anything that is free or cheap at least ideally.
Plus far more newer series are rising up and trying to dethrone the dinosaur/relic/fossil that One Piece is now, the "new/young generation" that Japan loves so much and loves to write about constantly, the new surpassing the old. Oda is relying extremely hard on the same fanbase he cultivated decades ago, stringing us along with endless new mysteries, cockteasing, baits, plotlines, millions of new characters, distractions, reveals, ruination of storylines/characters, and promises of doing certain storylines/theories/mysteries/arcs/characters etc justice too.
Makes me laugh hard whenever I see other series outselling One Piece and finally knocking OP off its long undeserved pedestal, the champion that has reigned for FAR too long and no longer deserves it, no longer has earned it, it's just complacent and lazy, much like certain characters in the OP world who just gave up and became petty, ironically.
For so many years I and many others had to endure so much gaslighting and ironically hate from the "benevolent, open-minded, tolerant" One Pieces who are "definitely not addicted cultists living in eternal Will of Denial" and seeing One Piece finally experiencing some humbling, some punishment for its obnoxious hubris, especially with most of its fanbase is nothing less than extremely cathartic now.
Imagine going back 10 years ago and telling us, telling OP fans what Oda would do with Wano, Zoro, Vegapunk, Luffy's fruit, Kaido, Big Mom, Kidd, Law, Blackbeard, Mihawk, Buggy, Devil fruit awakenings, Admirals, Pluton, the Gorosei etc. I would have definitely given up on One Piece permanently back then like I should have. The longer I follow this series, the more I regret it, it only keeps getting much worse and worse with every year now.
I just dread and fear how much worse it can get than it already has now.
One Piece's final arc will be way more awful than Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail, AOT and any other series combined with them. I'm certain of it. There's no way Oda can stick the landing of a series that will be 30 years old by the time it gets there, there's no way the One Piece will live up to the hype we all have expected for 26 years now and there's no way it won't be something we've already expected it to be at this point in my opinion unless Oda truly decides to mess with us and never reveal it so he can keep the "elements of mystery and romance alive" and bait us for a sequel series and infinity more too.
Sorry, but I'm just extremely exasperated at Oda's nonsense now, and it's only going to get worse, so we better buckle up, fasten our seatbelts because Oda's only getting started on ruining our favorite characters/dreams/theories/storylines/arcs etc.
The amount of controversies, drama, and breaks the OP community has had the past few years and for One Piece and Oda themselves are extremely exhausting. I'm barely invested in the series anymore; the characters who kept me going are gradually being ruined or outright brutalized and devastated too. Also, other things I waited decades for.
Oda can't redeem Dragon at this point either, not truly. It's going to be damage control at best, compensation. I don't want to hate Dragon at all, but Oda is making it very easy now especially. Just like Shanks, Yassopp, Mihawk, Garp, etc.

Things I would change in wano
- decrease the number of scabbards
- remove hyogoro and yakuza of the story (would make more sense if the person who taught luffy about ryuo was one of the scabbard)
- remove numbers
- more focus on zoro and his relation with wano
- give a better fight to big mom
- make oden dont be so retard, make the character be like what we would expect of samurai
- remove yamato or change a lot the character personality, purpose, ect
- insert info about nika stuff in the beginning of the arc, and not in the third act
