Honestly I always had the hope that the backstories of BB pirates would be dark mirrors of those they fight. Mainly because shiryu joining the BB pirates being a darker version of how Zoro joined Luffy was really cool to me and hoped oda would do that again.
It’s also why I hope Nami fights York, cause a woman who betrayed her home due to her greed and joins the crew after that partnership fails to pan out is exactly the kind of dark reflection stuff I like.
