Personally I feel it’s a bit more possible that Lafitte was influenced by a Rox pirate who escaped God Valley and ended up at Lafittes homeland and basically became a mentor to Lafitte, but I’m open to the faked his own death scenario.

He may not be a rocks pirates but could of jnow of God valley just like Hina from the west blue who knows of the rocks pirates

Heck Cross guild could get money from Bege enemies the five families of the west who also might know of God valley and took some of the treasure there

Honestly I always had the hope that the backstories of BB pirates would be dark mirrors of those they fight. Mainly because shiryu joining the BB pirates being a darker version of how Zoro joined Luffy was really cool to me and hoped oda would do that again.

It’s also why I hope Nami fights York, cause a woman who betrayed her home due to her greed and joins the crew after that partnership fails to pan out is exactly the kind of dark reflection stuff I like.

It would also be cool hints at Van Augurs past as we.
