Chapter 744 is the first chapter we've gotten and I'll count up until 782 which totals 38 chapters.

In 2023 we've gotten:

The conclusion to the Gian arc (744 - 752):

The aftermath and Kanki's flashback with Mougou (753 - 755)

Shin, Tou and Rokuomi visiting Han and Kanpishi's introduction (756 - 760)

Kanpishi arc involving Youka and Rishi (761 - 766)

Bihei's marriage and Shin's proposal to Kyoukai (767 - 768)

Few set-up/transitional chapters, SBS's introduction (769 - 771)

Battle of Hango (772 - 782)

Going in chronological order I'd say the finale of Gian was pretty wild and I'm glad Hara chose to kill of Kanki, JKR's death was terrible though. The Kanpishi arc was a great breath of fresh air and I'm enjoying Hango much more than I was Gian. Anyway, 2024 will likely be better :catsweat:

I'm going to think about my reasoning for a bit longer, but right now, I'm thinking C+ or 6.5/10 for the year. Perhaps a little higher.

Didn't enjoy the conclusion to the gian arc that much
Just glad Kanki is dead
Kanpishi arc was great, just a shame he died so soon.
Bihei marriage was great. I really liked the interactions with everyone from the village.
Hango has been fire thus far
8 or 9/10 for this year

Kanpishi was my favorite character of the year, and the fact he died so early was disappointing.

Kanki's death, the start of Hango, parts of the mini Han Arc were great.

I liked that we got to see the kid from Chapter 1 again, that was a nice callback, and I liked the proposal.
Post automatically merged:

I'll never forgive Hara for JKR's death

It's my opinion Hara has been on a breakneck pace since Western Zhao Invasion and that has come at a cost to the story.

Each following arc started strong but ultimately ended up being fine. Thin, abbreviated and sadly consistently coming up short in ways I can find little justification for.

I would give Kingdom a solid 8.5 in 2023. Kanki’s death was a highlight of the series for me, and the battle of Gian and its conclusion were amazing. Literally never gave a fuck about Jyoukaryuu, no idea why so many were upset at his death, dude was the definition of a minor antagonist lol.

The Kanpishi arc started off okay for me and really didn’t go anywhere. It was a fine arc, not bad not great, and it was pleasantly short.

Post Kanpishi, the buildup to Hango has been great and the start of the battle has been fun as well. The hype for Shibashou has kept me glued to the spoiler thread but as of now he hasn’t done too much.

Overall I would call 2023 a perfectly fine year for Kingdom, not amazing but certainly better than average.

6/10 - Decent year but not great imo
Kanki arc - Not my favorite. One of my least favorite arcs in Kingdom
Kanpishi arc - Started very strong and refreshing but lost its momentum at the end
Bihei marriage arc - My favorite! Shin going back to his village and the reaction of him becoming a general was really great
Battle of Hango - It has been different and i like it so far.

7/10

I think the latter half of the Gian arc wasn't that great for me (though Kanki's death was done really well), The Kanpishi arc definitely looked like it was shaping up to be something great before he was gone from the story in the most anti-climactic way, but the Bihei party was nice and everything about the Hango arc so far has been pretty stellar. Hopefully the arc continues it's quality.

The ending of Gian Arc was meh, but at least it concluded Kanki's story and gave him a death that would satisfy his fans.

I think Kanpishi Arc is easily one of the best political arcs in the series. Philosophical debate then turned into a spy plot and ended in a tragedy. This shit is truely underrated.

Hango Arc so far is very solid and I'm enjoying it a lot. There is a feeling of higher scale and importance and it's difficult to predict how things will end for Qin this time.

So overall even tho I have few minor complains I think this was probably the best year for Kingdom in a while.

Kanki arc was both amazing and bad

the pacing was strange, Kanki had unbelievable feats, his « weakness » was a bit lame etc

But it also had great moments like the flashback, some interactions with his crew, and his end was done really greatly.

But I was glad he died and is not in the story anymore

Kanpishi arc was very promising too but the guy death and end was quite strange. The spy (forgot his name) is cool, but let’s see where all this would lead.

SBS crew introduction was cool and JKR was good. Loved his spirit and his death was bullshit.

Other Seika are good too Gakushou, Jiaga and Kansaro. And now SBS smug face.

For now I like a lot Hango war.

So a solid 7 for me maybe 7.5

6/10 or 7/10 sounds right.

Large parts of the Gian arc were really bad but the end of Kanki was done great and I'm glad Hara actually killed him on panel.

Kanpishi was nice but Youka and Rishi really made it a good arc. Youka is a menace!

Bihei's marriage was wholesome.

SBS delivering all the hype, we're in for a great start in the new year. Can't wait!

Riboku’s clown vassals: “No one can escape lord Riboku’s cage” x2058
Riboku: “Kanki’s weakness is …”
Kanki: “ZENOUUUU”
Zenou: “BOUUUUUH”
Riboku‘s clown vassals: “iMPossiBLe, they escaped Riboku’s cage”

Fast forward to the most bullshit 5 chapters of escaping death
Riboku: “kAneKi wHY aRe yOU eViL?”
Kanki: “lol u trash”
Riboku’s clown vassals saying something reasonable for once: “lord Reebok stfu and kill Kanki”
Riboku Uzumaki: “nO i CAn fiX Him”

As for Kanpishi’s arc, I’d say its one of these arcs that truly highlight how good of a writer Hara is (besides what I wrote above)
He used this short little arc to further the world building in his story
-Shin gets to learn new skills under Tou, something like scanning enemy cities for long term strategy might seem simple, but its nice to see Hara caring for these little details
-Introduced Han’s future antagonists
-Established Qin’s dominance over a weak state like Han by having Kaioku directly threaten their royal court
-Introduced an important historical figure in Kanpishi
-Linked Kanpishi with the Youka plot
-Youka plot opens the readers eyes to what actually happens behind the shadows in China
-Youka said to be the most dangerous man in China by Kanpishi and we’re about to know why soon
-By abruptly killing Kanpishi, the one whom at first we assumed was the main character of the arc, and giving life to Youka’s plot, Hara is plainly telling us whom is the more important man in the bigger picture

@Elder Lee Hung Youka will be the one to destroy Zhao from within, this arc was a nice short setup for whats about to come
