Garp was seen as the "Hero of the Marines" and the man who cornered Roger the "Pirate King" multiple times. And Mihawk was known as the "Marine Hunter". Did Mihawk ever try and go after Garp to test his strength?

Garp, bootlicker as he is, preferred hanging out with his boss rather than being out chasing pirates. He only went out when it was his desired (friend) pirates, such as Roger, shiki, chinjao and such. So he can fight non lethal battles and have fun.

The Chad admiral that actually had the balls to stand his ground against mihawk lays 6 foot deep in his grave now and waits for the mihawk flashback to get introduced.

I doubt it. If Mihawk had gone after Garp, it probably would’ve been big news and mentioned by someone. My guess is that Mihawk’s “Marine Hunter” name comes from slicing up Marine fleets that happened to have Vice Admirals/Rear Admirals in them.

Nothing suggests they actually fought in the past. No reaction from Garp towards Mihawk and the opposite is true as well. Considering the age gap it is also pretty normal.
