Its very clear that Mahito was the real threat among them.

And I might even agree that if he had been allowed to recover after getting his body if distorted killing he might be stronger than Jogo.

But again, Mahito has Gojo/Sukuna level potential, so I fail exactly to see why this downplays Jogo?

It means an injury or incapacitation or some extenuating circumstance that prevents a character from using full power.

In this case it’s obvious what the “nerf” is and I don’t feel like explaining it

Not even touching 15 F Sukuna once and being toyed with by Gojo & Sukuna doesnt mean Jogo has "superior feats".

Gege drew Jogo not even caring about opening his Domain against Sukuna & Sukuna even called his loser mentality out.

Meanwhile, Mahito in the very same arc, pulled of a 0.2 sec Domain expansion in a 50/50 gamble and told Sukuna to his face to stay put & wait.

There is no world where Gege places Jogo over Mahito.

The merger is still in play. Imo, a possible scenario is this:
- Megumi is shaken awake by Yuji's punches and interferes with Sukuna (maybe when he regains his Domain again)
- Sukuna senses that things will be tough if Megumi starts affecting his performance so he jumpstarts the merger
- Once the merger is activated, I think that Sukuna and Megumi will be separated completely
- Sukuna will manage to retain a physical body even outside of a vessel somehow

The latter, but it's an amazing ride. The way the author uses the environment is second to none imo.
If you end up trying it out, try to stick around to at least chapter 10-11ish (that's what hooked me and I've been on the ride ever since)

Tengen could work since Cursed Spirits can be used as vessels. But then basic RCT would be lethal for him.

And Sukuna merging with humanity would be even more OP than rn, that's just too much
