General & Others History Lesson: What happened to Oro Jackson and Arlong Park

#3
Arlong Park was never closed, it's very much online. It just got hit with a lot of false dmca claims from random companies and was forced to temporarily offline for a few months. They've upgraded their servers to something more modern at least, (I don't really like the new look but whateves)

Orojackson:
Divvens the head admin could no longer financially support keeping the servers running (everything was coming entirely out of his own pocket) and he didn't want to hand over the keys to someone else, so he pulled the plug.

The successor to Orojackson was supposed to be the mafia/roleplay centered forum called Thriller Bark, but of course (being more centered on roleplay that actual One Piece) didn't pan out.

And thus Worstgen slowly became what it is today.

To add to that, during the downtime more and more mods would step away, and with an admin that almost didn't care much about the forum itself, whenever ArlongPark return online, the moderation of the few threads/comments would always fall in the hands of one or two overzealous mods who cared more about testing their powers (by banning or even permabanning) on this or that user, rather than focusing on creating a good place where to have a nice discussion about the manga. By the time I left AP, it was more about "how we behave here, because we are AP", rather than "we're here because we all love OP".

That's the political reason they told everyone, but it ran much deeper than that. The short version is, pretty much a user got banned for some inappropriate things, which caused them to make it their mission to make it a nightmare to keep the site up and running. Constant DMCA's. Reporting to various other outlets being accused of leaking manga chapters. Lawyers got involved... etc.... The admins lost their passion, and In the end it wasn't worth it anymore. They'd win one battle, and two more would pop up. I could go on, but it's water under the bridge now.

RIP Divvens

The mods got tired of running Oro Jackson. Numerous users left due to disagreements with the mod team. Basically it wasn't worth running the site anymore.

I don't think i've had an account on oro jackson but Arlong Park was trash I'm glad they're gone. The site was run by dictators and the only appeal was they had a very dedicated spoiler section. Alot of European or otherwise retarded neck beards with elitist one piece views lmao. Along with the grammar nazi's I hoped they closed the site by setting everyone in it on fire.

Joking fire hurts.

For OJ...
Overzealous mods made the forum practically unusable.
Some norwegian rage kid (forgot the name) was banning and suspending people left right and center.
Eventually they banned and abused too many people so that a large chunk of the most active userbase wanted to leave.
Bogard took action and people went there.

Anything else is cope.
