None of them were there. Who guarantees Mihawk isn't saying that for every swordsmen with potential he finds on his way? Maybe he told that to Shanks too and got disappointed when he lost an arm to a fucking fish(not even Kaido).
That's very headcannon assumption to do. Does Luffy thought he was strong enough to beat Rayleigh after the 2 year trainning? Or the 1,5 year that Rayleigh stood there (which makes no fucking sense for Rayleigh to leave since he could have teach advanced haki unless he was afraid he would lose his golden pussy). Did Franky thought he was smarter than Vegapunk? Sanji thought he could beat Ivankov? Robin thought she could beat... Idk... Koala? The Karate guy? Sabo? Dragon?
I can admit that until that moment of course there was a desire of Zoro to beat Mihawk and they saw each other as enemies. But the moment Mihawk decided to train him this was the first step to change their relationship forever. And after 2 years they could never be the same as before. Can you believe calling someone an enemy after that person teach you something very important to your life, give you food, healed your wounds, give you a roof over your head so you can sleep? Unless they had a huge argument or stuff that broke all that kindness relationship they build up in 2 years there is no reason to believe Zoro would ever raise his sword against Mihawk ever again.
Same shit with Luffy. He will never fight Shanks for real.
And how much promises Zoro already unfullfilled? He already lost as his promised. He didn't recruited a fucking samurai. That's just from the top of my head.

Where is here?
1. They do not have to be there Mihawk is the wss, stronger than every other swordsman in the verse in name and reality he is the wss so much so that one armed shanks is considered to be a has been by himself (the literal definition of a has been is outdated).
2. Why are you thinking that all the strawhats think like zoro and wanted to surpass each master in strength? Luffy never wanted to surpass Rayleigh in two years he was content with learning the basics of haki as Rayleigh himself said he would teach him in about two years. Sure ray could have stayed and taught him adv haki I agree with you but oda had Ray establish that in battle that’s where haki blooms at and that’s the course oda has luffy follow. Sanji on the other hand was in a battle but nothing in the manga supports him wanting to be stronger than Iva… Iva set the standard 99 recipes sanji needed to steal them the assumption is he beat all 99 in battle but we don’t know as Iva called them masters of new Kama karate. We know sanji succeeded because him getting a bit back to sabody depended on him beating all 99 not 99+ Iva San. Zoro is different from either of these two he states upon talking to Mihawk that he was not ready to fight him yet, that he needed training from him to surpass him, that he had already beat the monkeys on the island. The only thing left was Mihawk, and we know persona came later thanks to kuma. Unless u can show proof it’s not logical what so ever to think that 1.persona did it, 2.zoro self inflicted it, 3. One of his blades turned on him and did it. The only logical thought is that after training with Mihawk Zoro wanted to test and see the gap between the two, and stupidly since he did not recognize that Mihawk was still the superior fighter Zoro lost his eye.
2. continued- yes I do believe they can still have a serious fight because the manga establishes these points as they are conversing. Zoro establishes that even with training his goal is still to surpass Mihawk , Mihawk himself establishes that even though he is training Zoro he understands that Zoro wants to take his head. At the end of the day you can headcannon any type of scenario you want to try and make it not happen but the oath, the words that had luffy sweating, the promise between the wss to remain at the top and wait for zoro the battle for the future wss spot will happen it’s set in stone and again the future pirate king will see it.
3. I’ll give u that he did not recruit the samurai but if u think that is the same kinda promise that was made in front of the future pk and wss then there’s nothing that I can say that would change ur mind imo. Personally I still think the moment will happen but it’s headcannon and speculation until it happens otherwise.

sorry, click on volume 6 the oath u can see the chapter there. Mihawk says he will wait years for zoro if need be for him to surpass him (MIHAWK NO ONE ELSE) Zoro says he won’t lose until the day I defeat HIM (MIHAWK NO ONE ELSE). Sure me and you can sit here and argue schematics about what constitutes a loss for Zoro but at the end of the day the author doesn’t feel like Zoro has broken any promise what so ever so why should I or u for that matter say it has been broke?
