I think it’s a mighty coincidence that Roger happened to have the son of a holy knight on his crew, a dude who gets audience with the gorosei, and subsequently ended up dying of a mysterious life ending illness.

I feel like it’s likely that Shanks was groomed by Garling/gorosei into poisoning Roger. That Roger’s words to him in the Oden flashback were basically telling Shanks that he knew what he did and that he forgives him.

I think the reason the gorosei are talking to Shanks isn’t merely because he’s garling’s son. As we know the CDs hate it when their kind rejects CD privilege(see: homing and myosgard). I think they’re talking to him because Shanks helped them in the past by poisoning Roger.

I think this is also why Shanks never went for One Piece. He doesn’t see himself as worthy, given what he did. I bet he’s probably only in the race now to stop Teach from winning.

Wasn't he a baby when Roger found him? So how exactly did they groom him? Do you really want us to believe Roger who had VOAT and most likely emotion sensing got outfoxed by kid Shanks?

Interesting, however I think a better approach would be to consider Gorosei/CDs experimentation with diseases ; maybe baby Shanks in the chest was purposefully infected (+ vaccinated and still infectious) and thus was ultimately the one to transmit the fatal disease to Roger.

Not sure if it completely fits timeline wise but imo it explains him crying in the flashback (Roger acknowledging what happened but not blaming Shanks).

It would also kinda explain why his position in the OP world is so peculiar, having ties with WG but not being too friendly with their forces.

Idk why Roger would be the only one infected in his crew though. Maybe he needed to be the one to open the chest? Eh..

The only thing I remember and can't ever forget, is that Shanks let Ace die.
Believe it or not this shit traumatize the child me.

And growing up, I realize that it's possible Shanks did it to pave way for Luffy (develop his character & eliminate rival).
It's not canon, but I can't get this out of my head.
