Pretty much this. Yamata doesn't identify as a man, because she feels like a man. She refers to herself as a man, because Oden was a man, and that is her idol. She says so herself.



If Oden was a potato and was fed a Zoan Devil fruit, then she'd refer to herself as a potato. She just wants to be Oden in every aspect.
