What I understood is that for some reason both Maki and her sister were preventing each other to achiev their full potential. Could it be that if Maki died instead of her sister then her sister could become a top tier Sorcerer? Perhaps greater than Gojo?

mai took all the ce with her, cause they sharing the same ce. if maki dies instead of mai, then she can take all ce with her or can left all ce to mai. if she lefts ce, mai just takes all ce they sharing to herself. it's not making her much greater

What I understand is that she never had in first place. That's why she couldn't even see CE monsters without special glasses.

im gonna try and explain this in the most oga boga way possible:
Toji had 0 Curse energy
Mai and maki were sharing curse energy
Lets say they together had 10 curse energy, mai had 9.5 of it and maki had 0.5 of it
By mai dying, she took away the sharing curse energy
She became like toji who had 0 curse energy
