Obviously I am slightly exaggerating. But today's one piece skips much more content and uses the anime to fill the gaps. Fillers too are supervised and approved by Oda himself, are they not?
No he doesn't pay attention to the anime at all really.

Also, it's always funny every time people simultaneously complain about Oda taking too long and dragging arcs out too much and putting in too much detail while also complaining about skipping content. Maybe the stuff that gets skipped doesn't matter? Maybe the stuff that is in the manga is more important?
