Why would smoker fight Kuzan? From a story Standpoint.

Because Kuzan is a marine who became a pirate

Because Smoker is a long time rival of Luffy’s and he needs development after being away for hundreds of chapters.

Law has smoke to settle with BBPs, an obviously oda playing up the D angle.

Post dressrosa, Oda has continuously lumped Law’s storyline in with Kid’s. They fought BM together. Then Law fought Teach while Kid fought Shanks.

Chances are Oda will do the same thing in elbaf.

He is not an admiral level guy but he's should be stronger than other yc1 guys.
Before his df He was maggelan's equal who beat iva (second strongest under dragon) quite comfortably, that alone make him yc1+ imo.
The whole scene with garp only make him better.
He knew that garp will protect Coby and capitalize the moment in the best way possible.
He showed speed, lethality and brains in one instant.
I don't agree with people saying that zoro needs him in order to train his coo if it's not for fs ofc.
In the battle zoro has amazing coo feats that surpasses many characters, even coo specialist.
Whatever the case shiryu is an excellent character for zoro as his next serious fight.

Zori isn't strong enough to fight Kuzan. And I don't think he will ever be strong enough to beat kuzan. Zori's EOS opponent Mihawk is confirmed weaker than admirals so Zoro will never reach that level.

OT : Shiryu is kind of the obvious answer but since Oda ''subverts expectations'', sometimes for the sake of it, I would guess someone else or maybe noone ? I don't see why he would fight Kuzan of all people but who knows too.

Even tho shiryu’s main gimmick will definitely be more based in trickery/deceit type shit he’s still gonna be stronger than king or Lucci

He’ll hopefully most likely end up awakening his fruit using it too it’s max potential. At the end of the day he’s gonna use it better than absalom

If he’s able to make the surrounding environment invisible it’d be a cool power to use especially on zoro who’s always lost and can’t find his way. Depending on how many obstacles in the area even better for shiryu
If he’s able to hide himself within a group of people it could be a cool moment where zoro has to “cut” through all of them but managing to only hurt shiryu and leaving the rest unharmed. And again if he can make them also invisible good for him

Hear me out, I know it sounds deluded, but the way Zoro has been getting multiple opponents in recent arcs actually make it a possibility. And depending on when the fight takes place there should come a time when Zoro > Kuzan as WSS should be around Fleet Admiral level with all the hype around it since chapter 3.

I’ve previously always leaned towards Zoro v Shiryu but that would soon depend on if Oda intends to make Shiryu > Kuzan. If not then the possibility of Zoro v Kuzan rises as no 2 v no 2 although I’d rather see Katakuri or Koby v Kuzan. Heck, even Katakuri & Koby v Kuzan would be nice. Same as Kidd & Law v Big Mom.
