I mean this has been the story with other Gorosei too (except Saturn, that dude is a bum). Whenever they got hit, there was an asterisk. Jupiter got chopped when he was focused on Luffy. Mars got smacked by Giants when he was focused on Luffy. In both cases, Giants attacked from the front.
It's still a good feat for Sanji that he attacked before Venus could switch focus (mainly because Venus is hyped for his speed), but it's getting way blown out of proportion. Oda isn't having Gorosei tank with haki or dodge, because they can afford to get damaged
