Is Shanks a swordsman?

Because the fate of one certain character's title and premise is entirely dependent on whether Shanks falls into the swordsmen category. And because that one certain character is another character's dream, literally millions of fans' agendas are at stake here.

Future Trunks or Sasuke being swordsmen were completely irrelevant to their goals or others' goals, thus no agenda was in danger.

The funny thing to me is that the focus here isn't quite on track. Shanks is a swordsman, but swordsmanship isn't his primary skill and he isn't actually, as far as we've seen, a particularly talented swordsman at all. There is one metric that exists in One Piece that you can use to judge a character's swordsmanship that seems to slip under the radar.

Pure sword techniques.

And by that I mean doing things with swords that aren't possible without the aid of devil fruits or haki. Blade beams, cutting objects that are larger than your actual weapon, stuff like that.

By this metric Zoro was already a superior swordsman to Shanks back in East Blue, despite definitely not being more powerful than him.

The only technique we've seen Shanks use with a sword is Kamusari. And that's something he could probably do with haki and without a sword, but not something he could do with a sword and without haki.

In conclusion: Shanks is a swordsman, he's just not a very good one (as far as we've seen).

Pure Swordsmanship means CoC tho.

That's the only skill..anyone who is strongest Swordsman automatically has strongest CoC in the world.

Not necessarily. Mihawk shot a blade beam at Whitebeard without any CoC or CoA behind it. As evidenced by the fact that Jozu ate it without being affected due to his devil fruit. Pure swordsmanship means pure swordsmanship. Everything else just makes you a better fighter.

And like I said, Shanks definitely has better CoC than hakiless East Blue Zoro, but hasn't done any sword technique nearly as impressive.

Due to recent discussion I was asking myself if any other work besides One Piece there is a fandom where a character using a sword isn't immediately called a swordsman?

90% of characters uses swords in Bleach. Pretty sure they're mostly swordsman unless of course the one their swords changes into something else (like gloves WTF bleach?).

In Naruto the few sword users were considered swordsman if I'm not wrong.

In DBZ just the same.

Any fandom similar to the cringe Shanks fandom from One Piece have a character that uses a swords for everything when it comes to fight yet their fans claims he is not a swordsman?
It's super easy, for example in naruto many weapons were used, for example kunais or swords. No one was a kunaiman or sasuke who used a sword was not considered a swordsman. Why? Because for them, the weapon was just one of many things in their repertoire to fight. They can use a weapon/sword but are not solely fighting with that. For example the same goes for king, he even said this himself to zoro.
But zoro pursues the way of rhe sword, he only uses swords to fight, because he IS a swordsman. I mean, zoro could also punch his opponent but doesn't. Why? Because his repertoire is (intendly) limited to swords, which makes him a swordsman (just like mihawk). As for shanks, we don't know but it's highly possible, that he doesn't only use his sword.

I don't even understand why this is so hard for many to understand lol.

In these other works the author doesn’t intentionally put fuel on the fire, like having King claim he is not a Swordsman, even though he is more skilled with a Sword then 90% of the verse. This is not to say Shank’s isn’t a Swordsman, he is unless this is later contradicted in the story, but Oda wants the casuals to debate the issue, while it’s more clear in secondary canon that Mihawk is superior like Databooks.

It was never stated that King is not a swordsman.

Pretty much the whole fandpm considers Sasuke a swordsman for obvious reasons.

Brook is a swordsman despite using his DF powers. Kinemon the same. Orochi was also one.
