Oda hates leaving important plotlines actually... lost. Look at how many old characters are being shown as still important.
We're just hasty and impatient, and want those pay offs now. I really would have liked to see the D revealed here, though, at least the name.
But, overall, Egghead's been a great arc for pushing the plot forward.
Do you think the Straw Hats will fully escape, or not? And, do you think they'll escape by ship, Kuma, or something else?

The Vegapunk speech was cool, and the revelations about Joy Boy being the first pirate, the world sea level, etc., were impactful, but it still needed another big reveal to truly live up to the hype. I was hoping to learn the name of the ancient kingdom or something about D. Unfortunately, it looks like we won't get either.
As for Linlin and Kaido, the issue is that the Onigashima climax was supposed to be the point where all their buildup paid off. While similar cases to Kaido and Big Mom before didn't come after the character's main climactic arc had already happened. So, I think it's fair to be frustrated that their arcs weren't properly wrapped up here.
Egghead is great as long as the Gorosei/Marines suffer a loss. As a new Yonko, Luffy needs to get a W here. I think Kuma will sacrifice himself allowing the SHs to escape, hopefully after Luffy gets a couple of chapters kicking Saturn's ass.
