It's estimated that the red-tailed hawk can see up to 8 times farther than the average human. Their visual acuity is approximately 20/2, which means that they can see an object from 20 feet away that a human with normal vision would need to be 2 feet away to see clearly


Hawks have a field of vision of about 278 degrees, which is wider than the 180 degree field of vision of humans. Hawks have evolved to have both long-distance vision for hunting and short-range vision for navigating through forests. Their eyes have shallow depth-of-field to perceive nearby obstacles, but high depth-of-field in the center.
