The sad thing is Big Mom could be in the top 5 of villains for the series (that may be an exaggeration but still) if Oda wrote her right
Oda needs to retire or something, he seems to be getting too old for the manga business.

She could have become this indeed, she had an interesting crazy mob boss character combined with terrifying strength and durability, Elbaf techniques, extremely powerful Coc and one of the most powerful and versatile devil fruits whose only limits are the powers of your imagination.
But Oda and strong female characters don't go along well, and it's obvious that Oda had no clue on what to do with Big Mom once he realized that she was too powerful for the Straw Hats and their allies in WCI and for the Supernovas in Wano, the result was the shitshow and hot burning garbage that we saw in both WCI and Wano.

To be fair, that is just a general quirk of regenerators in fiction. They always get fatally injured/dismembered or get torn apart like paper, especially when you compare them to other, non-regenerating characters.

Even OP has weaker regenerators like Marco take fatal damage from fodder.

The difference is that Marco was overall defeated with his regeneration active. The gorosei on the other hand will seemingly have theirs completely removed as their regen has no current limits.

The difference is Kaido outright stated he was letting the scabbards do it because he was willing to let them kill him then straight up murdered all of them when they proved no matter what they couldn’t.

The gorosei on the other hand are getting beat and busted all the time despite regularly saying how serious they are and have gotten absolutely zero payoff of it.

These are two completely incomparable scenarios.

Kaido got hit by all the supernovas , bite from momo and hits from yamato and nothing happen to them and he was being serious .
The elders have been very serious about is stopping the message and that still going and now some of them back paying attention to that .
You even had Saturn run pass the SH to destroy the message and you had get robo to stop topman from destroying the ship.
If anything Oda has out side forces deal with elders since the SH can't seem to get ride of them aisde from luffy tag combo .
Nami them group was suppose to leave and they get stall from ethan until Atlas now blow up here self and it much easier to run than win a fight.

No one said they have no limit, you think all 5 having Mythical Zoan but not 1 Logia or Paramecia is just coincidence?
