"Kid is so arrogant why didn't he learn his lesson the first time", it is clear that Kid haters are completely detached from reality and have no idea what its like and what is required to seriously compete in a sport and succeed. Look at all the real life UFC fighters and boxers. They are all like Kid. They are determined and ambitious, but are also arrogant, boisterous and have a bit of an ego. That is what real life competitors are like. You think after they lose a fight/match they just give up? No, they call out the person right after demanding a rematch, believing they can win the next time. They retain their confidence. That is a fighters/sportsman mentality. Personality doesn't win people fights. The people in real life with Luffy's and Shanks personalities aren't winning anything. These people are those who sucked at sport as a kid and kept getting outperformed by people like Eustass Kid. Then those people started watching animes to watch characters with their personalities succeed in a fictional world.
In real life, all shanks personality people have Oda's fat physique (Oda has shanks personality after all). So it's not surprising that the majority of this fanbase hates Kid. It is an anime fandom after all.
"my fave fictional character beat your fave fictional character" are the only wins people like you will ever get in life
now keep emulating your idol luffy by remaining a jobless idiot
You're out here tryna judge people on which drawing from a 20 year old manga they like you braindead moron. That' is grade A loser behaviour so quit projecting so hard, lmfao.
I agree Luffy shares those qualities with Kid, post is more directed at shanks tbh, but still, luffy irl would not succeed
IRL, most people attain success by by abiding by the law, being a functional and appreciated member of society and attaining wealth by doing a job. Neither luffy or kid are doing this, however, it is possible to be "successful" and attain wealth by being criminal, but they have to commit to it and let go of basic morals
half-ass criminals trying to be heroes at the same time aren't getting anything. Luffy would fail as a pirate in real life as he would just starve to death and get broke since they cant steal anything. And at the same time he's not abiding by the law either so he doesn't have a job. So he's just in no-mans land.
Completely false anyway. Kid and Law are much more talented than shanks, reaching this strength level and a bounty of 3B at early twenties, where shanks bounty was only 1B. Not to mention shanks grew up in rogers crew while kid and law had to work there way from the bottom, making both more talented and also harder working
I think a certain amount of ambition will be misinterpreted as arogance by some, when, like you said, it's just having that ambition and being willing to keep going in spite of not being there at a specific moment and sometimes failing.
And I think some people dislike Kidd because they haven't seen a lot of haki from him so they underrate him a lot, when in truth he is around admiral at the moment, and will beat Pranks.
Edit: I really don't like him hurting innocents, if that's what happened, but even if he did that, he will regret it once he becomes one of the strongest people and maybe try to make up for it to those villages or cities.
"the hurting innocents" part is way too exaggerated by fans. Oda had to make him a bit "savage" because otherwise he would be too similar to luffy. Kid is basically Luffy if he didn't care about being a hero (even if oda tries to say luffy isnt a hero, he obviously is). The main scene is in sabaody when kid is suprised that luffys says he wants to be PK, since everyone laughs at that. The series has showed how people mock roger and mock people that have dreams, like bellamy did.
These are the worst people to surround yourself with in real life too. There is nothing worse than bums that dont do anything which then criticise anyone else for having any sort of ambition. Or people that try make you feel bad for something you are passionate about. Kid kills those people. (obviously applying real life standards to this, its excessive to kill, but this is a damn pirate manga, hes not killing normal civilians like a normal pirate would he's killing the dickhead civilians).
Kind people can be strong if they have gone through conflict, pain and struggle. Shanks does not go through anything, simple waddling around and meeting new friends isnt making anyone strong.
You're right, most people who succeed in real life, especially in the example you used, are usually arrogant and despicable. But this is a fantasy manga, which tries to make a good portrayal of nice people (not just by making them look right, but also by making them strong leaders or even world changing characters). This is pretty obvious, since pirates in real life are just crooks (thieves, pillagers, kidnappers, etc.)... no wonder Kid met his end at the hands of a "Peace Main" (see below).
That is fine if the "nice" person is shown to be someone that trains hard, has been through struggle, and deserves that strength. The way Toriyama does it with goku is great. Goku is a kind person but hes not strong just because that, he strong because hes training, passion and grit. Toriyama respects vegetas strength as he also has those qualities, but gives goku the edge as hes more humble and willing to take advice from others ect...
This is not the case with Oda. Kid is the one going through all the fights and struggle while shanks is just nice guy. Personality>hard work is a stupid unrealistic message
The film was never meant to be a true biographical film to Ip Man's life, but to broadly touch on the elements from his life. Most of the central turns of the plot are there only for the purpose of making a movie more exciting, including the scenes depicting duels between Ip Man and the Japanese, including Consul General Miura Yoshiaki (三浦義秋), as well as Ip Man encountering hardship during the Second Sino-Japanese War.[34]
Ip Man's eldest son, Ip Chun, would have preferred the film to be shot on location in Foshan and noted the mansion was grander than the original one.[35]
what does electromagnetism have to do with anything? I'm referring to all the dumbass posts about how kid "deserved to lose because his personality is this and that" which is absolute rubbish. The people with Kid's personalities are the ones with real willpower and the ones that are winning. People with shanks personalities aren't competing in anything to begin with.
Kid didn't even get to display any "electromagnetism" or other abilities anyway since he got snuck
Honestly i agree that Kid's willpower and stubborness is appealing, it's basically Luffy's but with less childlike innocence but also no mc plot armor.
But trying to downplay Shanks is just downright saltiness at this point, hell we don't even exactly know what his "mentality" is.
Shanks to me is someone who is trying to emulate Roger, who given everything we've seen so far, would be a person who knows when to be kind, warm and not just pick fights randomly, but also when to be assertive, protect the innocent and not hesitate to fight for the right reason.
Why is that bad?, part of Luffy's character growth back in Drum, Alabasta and Jaya was exactly to learn that sometimes a captain has to be diplomatic and that picking fights with everyone isn't always worth it.
