You don't know what goes on in other people's heads. If anything, it goes to show that people around here are more mature than they let on, when everyone can come together and grieve the loss of a beloved member of the community.
Even beyond that, it doesn't matter whether or not people were close with her or if they even knew her at all. It's about being empathetic to both her and the people who were good friends with her, and a collective reminder about the fragility of life.
Talking shit about cartoon drawings is hardly a reflection of the overall quality of a person. People should be able to put that nonsense aside when it comes to things that actually matter.
