The only critique I have against that it's his motivation, like wanting to send people to Mars in case people start to nuke each other here.....that's just a stupid reason lol

I disagree on a lot of things you say, but I strongly agree with this point.

One can look at current issues in the world, the political fight over precious metals specifically. Asteroid mining could potentially deal with this issue a bit better and circumvent reliance on foreign powers. Say USA doesn't agree with China and doesn't want to rely on their rare earth metals, so they refuse to sell them high end processors or even straight up ban the direct sales. So US then can then get their alternative source of rare earth metals from space instead and avoid compromising their stance.

It's debatable technological progress goes way quicker that people can Imagine, the real age of robotics it's also around the corner, it might not take that many breakthroughs to see it feasible
