Character Discussion Why aren’t One Piece villains as iconic and memorable as Naruto/DBZ villains?

And? the impact they left on the viewer is still there because when we were watching/reader we had no idea if the deaths were permanent. Freiza to this day is considered one of the most iconic shonen villains and everybody he killed is alive in the current story.
Any impact Frieza may have had was gone by the time Buu came, because we already got two DEM, and sure enough, hey it happens again.

I know people give Oda shit for "nobody dies in One Piece", but is the alternative of "People die in One Piece, but then everyone gets revived with magic" much better?

TheAncientCenturion

I will never forgive Oda

I mean he’s just an arc antagonist, he doesn’t need the writing of Johan Liebert. You’d be hard pressed to find a Shonen arc antagonist who doesn’t have a very simple thematic message
So he doesn’t have personality or an engaging motivation, and a 3 sentence backstory…. So all he had is strength

What? Frieza's impact in shonen is felt to this day. What are you babbling about lmao

Then forget about the killing, notice how in my comment I said "did shit". It's the fact that the villains were active participants in the story and weren't just there to be beaten. The best example of this in One Piece is Croc. The man was pulling out backup plans, beating up Luffy and what not. In contrast to Kaido who most hyped moment was when he beat Luffy (being active) then spent 90% of the arc either being a punching bag or sitting in his castle doing nothing

There's very little threat to the One Piece villains nowadays. G5 Luffy now made them even bigger clowns

All style no substance, like his captain
Which is one of my many grievances toward Wano arc and Oda, Kaido was super badass and had great potential as an antagonist but Oda made him share an arc with Orochi and Big Mom (someone else with amazing potential and who was wasted, and who was treated horribly by Oda) with Orochi being the most active threat and mastermind of the Beast Pirates until Kaido finally betrayed him, while neglecting to develop his backstory, motivations, his empire outside of Wano and his relations and dynamics with the rest of his crew with the sole exception of King, and with Kaido not being an active threat for the great majority of the arc until Onigashima.

I was talking about Majin Buu. After Freiza and Cell's destruction was magic'd away, why would anyone not suspect thr same would happen with him.

And Gear 5 had no way to actually hurt any of the Gorosei. Even the big attack on Mars just sent him out of range of the summoning sigils.

Oda can't seem to figure out, that outside of the cuck Japanese culture, people actually like to see dominant villains beat up spoiled heroes.
Lol, speak for yourself. Madara and Aizen's bullshit ultra powers were tooth-grinding to read.

No DBZ or OP villain has this;

There is nothing special about classic stoic shallow villain characters like Madara, Itachi lmao. Those clowns can only scare low IQ little morons like ZKKclowns.

Doflamingo is a small version of BB, Dof learns from what Teach does.

The only thing Teach does that Madara, Itachi, Cell, Frieza don't, is being a pedophile.

Lucci? 😆

Kata I'll give u since he saved Post TS tension
Lucci saved pre TS tension. Water 7 Lucci > Katakuri.

This is fucking aura

No One Piece villain has ever matched this page, to this day.
Lucci > Crocodile.
Crocodile only beat Luffy twice because he is a logia, same with Smoker / Aokiji. Once Luffy gets the trick the fight becomes more even. Luffy didn't need to learn anything to beat Crocodile.

The only one who beat Luffy in psychical brawl pre TS was Lucci. It wasn't 1 vs 1 it was 1 vs 2, Lucci bodied both Luffy and Zoro together.
Not even Kaido got this portrayal, bodying 2 strongest Straw Hats. While the likes of Doffy and Vergo only got Sanji as their hype tool.

Luffy's most iconic moved are Gears, and Lucci is the reason Luffy learned these moves.

Both Kaido and Big Mom had the potential to be amazing and memorable antagonists but Oda fucked up hard with both of them, Big Mom with his non-stop clowing, handicaping and crazy writing of her; and Kaido with the absence of real substance, dynamics with his crew and others, and active threat of the character.

Wait, have you seriously been trying to call Jiren a well written character this entire time? :usoprice:

Jiren makes cardboard cutouts look like they have personality.
I will defend Jiren until the day I die. He’s a much more interesting antagonist than Kaido at the very least. This one scene of Jiren has more character development than Kaido’s entire career.

The only one who can beat me is me

Lucci wasn't too shabby. He had aura for sure, what he lacked though was Crocodile's sheer buildup and influence. Crocodile was truly a mastermind for One Piece standards, a villain's villain, anytime I reread Alabasta I tip my hat to Oda for creating such a dope villain.

Lucci is purely combat oriented, a killing machine. You can definitely argue he is the most iconic villain in One Piece purely off the fact that he was involved in its most iconic fight, Luffy vs Lucci. It's thanks to Lucci being who he is, that this fight was able to break the scale.

with Orochi being the most active threat and mastermind of the Beast Pirates
Off-topic but I still can't seem to figure out how in the world the alliance managed to get anything going during the build up to the raid with Kanjuro being right there feeding Orochi intel in real time. Why would he wait until the day of the battle to half-ass some counter-measures when he could have realistically acted weeks before Luffy and the WCI gang even landed on Wano?

JJK just has way more masculine energy than OP. I’ve seen a ton of high school kids wearing Toji outfits to the gym and casually discussing JJK with their friends. Never heard anyone mention anything about OP in public, and I can’t blame them. Even though I still love the series, anytime I see someone with a OP bumper sticker, I can’t help but imagine them being a fat soyboy tbh

Well, when all it is just fights with minimal original plot....
