Lucci vs Luffy
Enel vs Everyone
Crocodile vs Luffy
Zoro vs Mr.1
Katakuri vs Luffy
The list goes longer, we had great fights in One Piece, Oda can do it if he tries it.
Oda still does great fight.
The fight between Luffy and Kaido was amazing.
The fight between Zoro and King was amazing.
Etc.
We don't need more, just him showing of good devilfruit and haki skills in battles.
Wdym ?
Without fightning, there is no One Piece.
If Luffy not face his opponents, he never became the Pirateking. The whole manga is based on Luffy fighting his way to became a Pirate king, not the opposite mate :)
Yes and no. Again, fight are a tool, not the end.
Fight only needs what is needed from them nothing more. And at the moment you still haven't given me a reason why this fan art does a better job at fights than One Piece.
Because in reality, it's the opposite.
Not sure what choices led you to think Oda can't have fights be a tool AND draw them well and with more creativity than he has as of late
Never said that those were exclusive.
I demonstrated why what you saw here was NOT good FOR One Piece. The fight of One Piece are amazing. They are simply not molded on the mold of generic shonen fight, that's all.
Illogiko fr everytime someone criticizes Oda
I don't really care about Oda, I only care about One Piece mate.
"One Piece is not about fighting, it is about a story and lore, who cares about fights?"
No one here said "who cares about fight". What I'm telling you is that the way you see the fight are not the way they should be done in One Piece because it would desserve the story as a whole. And the fight that you are mentionning are bad exemple because they are NOT build like the fight you see here in this fan art. They ALL have the particularities of Oda's fights.
They are just more impactfull because the stakes are either different or the character more likable or the technics more appreciated etc.
cathartic fights in one piece is not that high
It's literally the majority of the fight.
Catharsis is not only what you feel here:
It's also what you will feel toward the entire fight between Kaido, or Doffy or Zoro V King
It's also entire moments like this:
It's a lot of things.
The reason for that is that all those fight are set up and prepared.
absolute filler fights like Sasaki vs Franky or King vs Zoro that go absolutely nowhere character-wise
That's an illusion. Even if - granted - all fight does not have the same importance. Pretty much all the fights are important either for the character's power or the evolution/ development of the character. (i'm talking about real duels) EVEN by a little bit.
Franky VS Sasaki is indeed a little bit less meaningfull, it's more of an evolution of the power of the character. But Zoro VS King is important, it's two will of two first mates clashing against each others. Zoro here, while is consolidating his will to surpass even the worst outcomes and the impossible (someone technically and partially invicible). It's the growth of his power and will of Conqueror that evolves here. (hence why it's in this arc that Zoro gets conqueror)
Everything has a purpose, even if you can't really see it.
But you need to understand that what you are trying to compare the fight of One Piece to, are technical, long / badass fight that are PURELY MEANINGLESS and
devoided of storytelling.
Even the little fights of the strawhats have a purpose. Either as a play on their cahracter or their power.
But fight that extend without reasons technics after technics just for fun.. is not a good thing to place in stories.
I know you think the same when you look at which Strawhats Oda actually cares about to write.
It's not because I think that Jinbe is the strawhat with the less writing that Jinbe has meaningless fights.
In fact, the fight between Jinbe and who's who was really meaningfull. Both in term of lore and characterization.
Second, oda himself stated that a BIG piece of a shounen final arc (That he is burning to draw) is about who fights who:
That's not what he said.
He simply said that we would be surprised about the duels. Which is logical since it will most likely be a battle royal. But he does not say that this is how big parts of the final arc of shonen should be. It will simply be a product of his storytelling.
Something unexpected. And it doesn't say anything about the nature of the fights. SOme might be long, some might be short, some might be offscreen, some might be funny. It will be very diverse.
But ALL the fight will respect the core of One Piece that I described in the the analysis. ALL fight and techniques will have a purpose and will be thought with the story in mind.
He cant even make a fight go ch after ch without switching
That's on purpose mate.
A fight that last multiple chapter and doesn't switch to something else is a fight without rythm.
I did, I was curious for his arguments, unfortunately he was talking off topic.
That's really sad that you can't see the point... I really made an effort for once.
And to say that the core of One Piece is not about fights is nonsense
It's not. It's all about characters and the story.
The fight are tool to make those stories progress, not an end.
But even in terms of battle choreography, Oda was much more in detail when it comes to battles. Compare Egghead Island fights with strawhats vs Oars and there are levels between the quality.
That's simply wrong. In reality, the quality is still there, it's just shaped differently.
You are not supposed to be scared for Luffy at the moment. You were supposed to be scared for the Vegapunk. Those were the ones in Danger. Luffy is currently in at the top of his dunning Kruger curves. He thinks that he will be able to do everything.
But don't think that because Luffy turned into a god, that he will be safe or that the mugi will be safe in the future. There are STRONG people ahead. Far stronger that what we have seen until now.
jokes aside he doesn't think one piece is a battle shonen so I don't care about his opinions or analysis
It is a shonen, it's just not a shonen focused on the battles. But on the story.
In shonen in general, the techniques are creating the story, in One Piece it's the opposite.
That's cute.
Tell me a single Top Tier or even High Tier fight we saw on screen from side characters
At random:
- Robin VS Black Maria
- Usopp VS Perona
- Zoro VS Mr 1
- Nami Vs Kalifa
- WhiteBeard VS Akainu
- Sanji VS Jabra
- Law and Kidd VS Big Mom
- Akazaya 9 VS Kaido
- Usopp and Chopper VS Mr 4 and Miss Merry Christmas
- Brook VS Big Mom
Etc.
Your vision of "good fights" is actually very limited.
For me Top tier fights is not necessarily a fight that is won or a fight with techniques deployed or a long fight.
It's a fight that really matters for the story and the characters.
