One Piece’s plot is inspired by the myth of China’s great flood. The myth spans 3-4 legendary figures depending on its telling, Yao Emperor, Gun, Yu the Great, and The Monkey King. These figures all try to stop the flood and fail until Yu or the Monkey King succeed depending on the telling. The Flood is attributed to various causes but in all telling various Demons try to stop these legendary figures from quelling the flood.
The two demons most notably associated with this legend are the Fengxi, St Topman, and Shu IMU or Wuzhqi, otherwise also know as Mushiki. Shu IMU in particular is a demon who started the flood as revenge for the theft of her magic pearl. She IMU is also known as Mother Sea and IMU’s pearl was said to be tied to her power to control the oceans and storms, since Shu IMU’s true form is sometimes said to be that of a Dragon. Eastern Dragon’s possessing a pearl is common and the inspiration for Toriyama’s Dragonball
These pearls also feature heavily in Korean mythology where an Imuoogi, a type of fledgling dragon, needs to obtain a pearl that falls from the sky to become an adult Dragon.
Yu or the Monkey King defeat Shu IMU by binding her with a rope, chain, or sometimes noodles since she could not be killed. Then using the magic staff they are able to bore a hole through several mountains to redirect the water flow and end the flood.
Applying this to One Piece.
There are 3 Major characters related to bring Dawn to the world, Nika, Joy Boy, and Luffy. Nika represents the Yao Emperor, Joy Boy is Gun, and Luffy is Yao & Monkey King.
In early sketches there is a Monkey D Poa, which is basic Yao with Y replaced by P.
Gun specifically tried to create the flood by creating dams which failed. We saw dams like this in Wano and the Red line, which failed. Could Joy Boy have tried to stop the flood this way and failed?
The Magic staff was shown being held by Nika
There is a hint that there is at least one more DF model Red Eastern Dragon in One Piece. Momo and Kaidou are based on Peach Boy and Blue Oni from the story of Momotaro. Pink Dragon and Blue Dragon. The Red Oni or Red Dragon was never shown in Wano. IMU’s name Nerona references the Red Dragon of the devil.
From this we get three candidates for the One Piece treasure. The Magic Staff, Magic Binding, and Magic Pearl. All three will be featured in the manga, with one being the hidden treasure.
