I'll give you the most bare bones of bare bones breakdown of the core game mechanics
- 3 factions: Town/ Mafia/ Independent
- Town is the good guys, they are the uninformed majority - want to eliminate mafia
- Mafia is the bad guys, they are the informed minority - want to eliminate town
- Independent falls outside of Town and Mafia and have their own win condition. Most common Independent is Serial Killer, they want to be the last man standing, town and mafia both be damned.
- The game is divided into 2 phases, Day phase and Night phase.
- Day phase is when everyone can talk in the thread and try to either sniff out mafia if you are town, or to trick them if you are mafia.
During the day phase, players can vote to lynch a player to eliminate them from the game.
The Lynch is the main way to eliminate players in the game.
- Once the Lynch has happened, the night will begin. This is where ordinarily you submit actions if it is applicable, and where Mafia will decide on a player to eliminate from the game.
Mafia has the additional benefit of being free to communicate and scheme during the nights in a private chat away from the watchful eye of Town.
