Hardening is the basic use of CoA.

Luffy hits Caesar with regular haki and hurts him. Caesars says "That hurt." He is bleeding. That's still not enough damage so Luffy uses Hardening. He says Hardening. His fists only turn black when he uses hardening. Caesar sees his blackened fists and reacts to this with fear because he knows it would hurt more.

These 4 pages are right after each other. This should not be hard to understand for anyone.

No, Hardening is an intermediate use of CoA. You can tell this because the manga itself portrays it this way, as Luffy tries base CoA, and then more effort on Hardening after base CoA doesn't do enough damage. Please learn to read. Thank you.

yeah i think part of why people like you linear powerscaling clowns dont understand haki is you dont understand that base CoA can still be stronger than hardening depending on the attack and the person. hardening makes your fist harder. this can make it hit harder, but you dont always need to make your fist physically harder to make your attack stronger.

You don't need Hardening to hurt a logia. You just need haki. Caesar is hit and bleeds before Luffy uses Hardening in these pages.

It's just some supernatural/cursed ability that Oda has yet to explain but saying Zoro doesn't actually receive more swords and limbs is just denying what's on screen. Probably he has some inner spirit granting him more limbs
