I remember seeing transformers as a kid. I think I had some toys of those and some VHS with eps.

The recent Ongoing Skybound comic series is an amazing retelling of G1. I'd highly recommend it.

The VN is better, and the first part (there are 8 total) is free on Steam I think. Make sure to get the 07th mod patch if you want to change the sprites.

To answer your question, yes it's excellent. The mystery is pretty good but the characters are the best osrt, their dynamic ends up being really good and the lore/worldbuilding is neat too. The anime is okay, but makes some changes that undermine the mystery quite a bit.
