It’s just very odd to me that dudes will literally see overtly some of the best level design in the entire industry and then say the exploration isn’t good lmao

Nah, they're capping hard. Elden Ring has one of the best open-world exploration experience while maintaining their key elements. Meanwhile, as much as I like Zelda, BotW and TotK had to give up lots of its key elements - especially the main dungeons which were a crucial part to the Zelda series.
From the 4 i played this year ( I didn't play astro and balatro) for me its Metaphor. Most fun for me
Also kinda weird to judge FF7 for me personally. My ranking about that game will significantly change for the better or worse how they end it, for obvious spoiler reasons for what happens in those games

I mean its a quality game for sure but like I said depending what they do with the writing, which cant be judged before its "complete", it is to iffy for to judge.
Also, I don't know how to put it into words as Im not really good with them but you kinda feel the "chokehold" of the project from its legacy. Some of the stuff that is in rebirth feels like "Oh we GOTTA do have x/y/minigame here or they will say we cheapened out on the fan favorite ff7 remake" or something
Like I say difficult to describe but I hope some people who played it understand what I mean
