I didn’t know for sure; I was trying to gauge his reaction. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Hagrid wins a dragon egg, and Hermione briefly helps care for it before it is smuggled out of Hogwarts by Charlie Weasley’s friends. Stargate18 claimed to be Hagrid. Initially, I thought Charlie might have been Hagrid, but after Stargate’s claim, I reconsidered and concluded that Charlie could possibly be Hermione. I then claimed they were Hermione to observe how Charlie would respond.

I mean you're kind of assuming someone has to be braindead to counterclaim which is wrong and not even the point.

Because you're conflating someone outing themselves voluntarily vs in reaction to a certain thing. Most players aren't going to take someone else claiming their shit lying down. It takes experience to understand the nuance of the situation and to hold the cards as it's happening. You're speaking with the benefit of hindsight in a pure hypothetical. Wouldn't be surprised if you would actually do it if you were Harry.

That's the point, it's not exactly "squandering" if you think someone lying confirms they are scum (as what tends to be the case), so most players will object. Maybe make a laughable attempt at disguising a counterclaim.
