Can you tell which one are you.

The one who rate anime generously? Or the one who rate anime harshly?

Even if you don't use anything to keep track of anime and scores. Are you harsh critizing anime in general in your inner thoughts, or are you more of a person that is generous even if the show is bad?

Personally I try to rate them according to their quality but ngl if it's a show I enjoy a lot I might inflate it a bit even if it doesn't deserve the sheer amount of praise I'm giving it.

At this point in time, with so many anime having been produced, and so much media in general being churned out just for content's sake, for me an anime has to do something truly unique to get a good rating, starting from the writing. If it's that weird machinery 3D animation, I won't even give it a chance, because I find it ugly and unwatchable; but if it's proper, nice 2D animation, then the dialogue in the first 2/3 minutes makes it or breaks it for me. Even if it's the most amazing plot in Nipponlands, if you front-load the episode with dumb expo boi going all "Eh?" "NANI?!", then it's a no-no for me.

It all depends on my expectations.

If it's something that I clearly see as just something to kill some time, the writing is mediocre, and I just need to have some fun with whatever that work has to offer me, of course I'll give it a generous rating, but it's important to say that your review is biased by your own expectations.
For example, I love the Golgo 13 anime, I've watched it many times, but the anime is very flawed, a lot of stupid scenes, etc.. But that's the job, you know? It's just a plot about an assassin who kills whoever he's asked to, the plot is very simple, I just can't rate it expecting it to be the Le Samourai of the anime industry.

If it's a work that I expect to be really good, I'll tend to rate it harsher, because it's not just a spare time job, because it's a work that has the potential to be a good work, and it should be rated as one, then if it doesn't fulfill its potential, a very harsh rating is the most appropriate one.

Of course, you can rate harshly works that you have low expectations for, such as low-quality mass-produced works that have the same plot, like Isekai, but I think that's more a problem of the industry than the work itself, so it's just better not to rate it at all.

@Rej what do you think?? m I generous or harsh?? lol
idek how you rated recent shows

I think you are quite in the middle, for some inidividual shows you might be a bit on the harsh side I feel.

Overall you are like me, someone who loves the medium overall.

I am just a bit more generous, but at the same time I am growing and refining my standards over time so I become more picky I would say.

I'm with you on that. If it's CGI I won't even give it a chance, like the Duke of Death.

Same. Although for me I usually do it for any anime tagged as harem. Don't expect much of it and I know what I'm getting into.

But that show is better than 66% of the renown romance shows out there.
The cgi adds so much charme to it. It's a passion project.
Eh maybe but it just doesn't work for me. Not saying it's a bad show or anything. I just don't like the type of animation. Like in Uzumaki or any Avant Garde show for that matter

World's End Harem a 4???:okay:

I see your ratings tend to be a bit gatekeeperish.

Would be interested in seeing how you would rate Mushishi. That's some real gatekeeper stuff ong.
