What is your favorite house in Westeros? And why?

My favorite is Arryn, the purest of all andals families. Arryns are considered the most prestigious and honorable house of westeros. I've seen people arguing that their nobility and honor are even higher than the Starks. Ned Stark takes honor to an extreme because he was raised in the vale by Jon Arryn. Even the knights of the vale seems more honorable than the rest of Westeros (but this can be a false impression).

They have a cool origin. Ser Artys Arryn, flying on a giant hawk, conquered all Vale from the first men (Its a false story, but still better than the majority of myths about the foundation of the other houses). They reigned over the vale for thousands of years.

The vale is a cool place, invanding this region is so difficult that the Arryns can afford to choise whether or not to fight a war involving Westeros.

The Eyrie is not a realistic castle and it's not practical either. However, all the concepts surrounding this castle are cool: moons door, the jails, etc. Its said that the Eyrie is impregnable. Only Dragons could be a threaten to the castle.

Ahhh As Much as I want to Choose one.
I like All the Houses. Their Mottos , and past because A house disappear in an instant as we have already witnessed. House stark just came out Lucky from Red wedding that Bran/Arya/Sansa still thrived.

My three fav houses though.

- House Stark :
  • House Stark’s snowy terrain is also quite intolerable for multiple southern houses in Westeros. However, this house can weather any storm and survive the coldest of winters. They epitomize survival.
  • The " Winterfell " is larger than Kings Landing nothing like LA counterparts.
  • Honerable , Strong Willed and Traditional. The fact they keep All of the north under control and north if btw bigger than other 6 nations combined.
  • Most House doesn't survive in the longer run but House stark actually did.
  • Valyrian Steel blade : Ice
  • Legendary character from House stark - Brandon Stark (The Builder)
  • Motto : " Winter is Coming "
- House Targaryen
  • Targaryen's Who were pretty Succesful with their Ventures in westoroes. The most Ancient Family you could say , as it have the Blood of Valyria in them.
  • Dragon Rider's , Like come on , they Dominated westoroes for this long.
  • I kept this is at Number 2 Because in the longer run even Targaryen didn't Survive consumed by their own Powers.
  • Castle - " Dragonstone " , again nothing like it's Book counterparts , In books it's made of Black rocks , Melted by Fire , It's a menace in short and Based up on top of a fuckin volcano , They are literal Opposites to House Stark.
  • Valyrian Steel - BlackFyre & DarkSister
  • Legendary Character from House Targaryen - Aegon The Conqueror.
  • Motto - " Fire and Blood "
House Lannister
  • whatever is said about them is less , They are most focussed house of Game of throne Time period.
  • House Lannisters sits at the seat of Casterly Rocks.
  • And just so Ya'll know Casterly rocks is nothing like how they have shown us in shows. It surpasses the height of the Wall. And what not.
  • Valyrian Steel - Bright Roar
  • Castle - Casterly Rocks
  • Motto - Hear me Roar!

Minor houses I like for some reason, one from each region:
- Bar Emmon (Crownlands) - I like their unusual naming scheme. It stands out from other houses. And while playing the got mod for CK2 I liked playing with them.
- Manwoody (Dorne) - not only because of their goat representative, but also because they have the most metal sigil in the story - a skull with a crown on a black field.
- Codd (Iron Islands) - Though all men do despise us. What else to say lol
- Umber (the North) - badasses with great nicknames like Whoresbane and Crowfood
- Hightower (Reach) - arguably as important as their liege lords but still a minor house. I like the mystery around them.
- Mallister (Riverlands)- a very cool knight comes from this house
- Dondarrion (Stormlands) - coolest name tl say out loud in fiction history
- Corbray (the Vale) - a cool family sword and an interesting knight
- Marbrand (Westerlands) - Adam carries

Of the big houses either the Lannisters (most fun to read their chapters) or Martells (I like their defiance)
I'll have to think more about the minor houses
I'm not considering the current Arryns, because Lysa is not an Arryn; sweet Robert is probably Baelish son; and Harry is an idiot

The Lannisters gap all houses in term of chapters

If Sansa and Cat had more engaging chapters I'd put the Starks here for sure. But if I have to read the word tummy or some Edmure slander more than 5 times per chapter, it means the chapter sucks

Starks probably. I find some of their current members quite annoying and make fun of their stupidity here and there but they are the most ancient and probably the most mysterious house in the story and their origin is probably tied to the White Walkers in some way.

Well I don't know the exact term for it, I think it was called House Words in the books?

You know, that one sentence each family has to describe them, like "winter is coming" or "fire and blood".

For the Baratheons it's " Ours Is The Fury" which I thought was pretty badass.
Yeah, no, you seem to be correct. My bad. RR dude really went with "house words" over slogan or motto.

I guess slogan/motto probably sounded too "modern" for the setting maybe?

House Words has a more archaic feel I suppose.

I guess it's for the vibe, you know, like saying smallclothes instead of underwear.

But IIRC the book itself calls them mottos at one point so yeah, bit of a mystery... especially since "House Words" sounds a bit plain.

I've been fond of House Swyft and their words since I found about about them.

Assuming their semi-canon house motto is actually: "Awake! Awake!"

I was actually drawn to them because of their words, which I think are dope even without the rooster motif.
