Eh, Oden is an exception. He's only that strong because the plot needed him to. It's the opposite of Ace, who is far inferior to what we're seeing commanders do post timeskip, but his potential was curbed so BB could defeat him.

Kaido isn't specifically obsessed with Oden's strength, but with Oden's honor and code of conduct. Oden always behaved like Kaido wanted to, abiding by his word and dying an inspiring death to save his comrades.
I don't get why you would legitimately bring marineford up, wb's commander were one arc only thing, obviously they don't get shat on for what will be their only appearance in the manga.

Exactly, so shouldn't he have a positive reaction to Yamato wanting to become like a pirate who reached laughtale? His goal is to destroy the government in a war, he has no reason to resent Oden so much
