Which is stupid, because if he had clarified the three basic types of haki and their three expert forms, then those combined with a character's DF ability would make for precise outcomes which readers could predict and feel tension for, knowing in advance what can befall their favorites and waiting to see how they could save themselves from a dangerous situation.

Onigashima is literally the only situation where Kaido switching off his COO makes no fucking sense, knowing both that there were foreign pirates in Wano looking to start up trouble, and having BM in his palace, whom, like he himself admitted, should never be trusted.
The party should've had Kaido paranoid and looking for threats actively.

COO gotta be the most inconsistent ability in the series since it works solely when the plot is asking for it

It's why he blinded himself in the first place. On his first journey to Mariejois as ambassador for his kingdom, Fuji used CoO to see what IMU was doing in his spare time, and was completely disgusted by it.
