I don't want to rain on the thread but... it's logical that he would simply arrive at that time.

The encounter with Kaido was likely short lived, no one sustained injuries after all, and Kaido was on his way to crash the war himself, so it makes sense for Shanks to make it to the battle in time from where he clashed with Kaido.

You aren’t hearing what he’s saying. If Kaido was close enough to threaten to show up that day, Shanks was obviously the same distance or closer, so both Kaido and Shanks were less than a day’s journey away if they had a meeting.

Shanks probably offered Kaido a cool zoan fruit or maybe a poneglyph copy etc to get him to ease off
