represented by bounties.

This isn’t Jojo where matchups and abilities really matter like the battledome is obsessed with. At the end of the day, it’s all about portrayal. That aspect carries a lot more weight.

I think matchups do matter to some extent, but to Oda at some point it doesn’t

like take Kid for example, I’m pretty sure if you ask Oda he’d say Kid is stronger than every YC1, but then we start thinking well how tf is he supposed to beat King and Katakuri?

Matchups and abilities still matter a bit thanks to devil fruits, but yeah Oda basically said via Ryokugyu once you hit a threshold matchup counters don’t matter

I agree with @Kurozumi Wiwi . Oda won't be highlighting haki again and again. Unlike, awakening or clear switch in gears or aura, haki won't get explicitly get demonstrated once oda is done with the arc in which a particular haki got emphasized.

We have to simply take it on face value - that haki is getting used.

Oda isn't a power level junkie as an author and he wrote himself into the corner with haki system. He doesn't even give a shit about power level anymore.

All I hope is we don't get another advanced version on top of this mess lmao

There's no defending it lol, One Piece is a battle shonen. Fights are the single most important thing in this manga whether people want to cope about it or not. Luffy is not defeating opponents or freeing nations by sitting down and having political discussions. Every problem is solved by Luffy kicking someones ass. He should have picked a different genre if he wanted to ignore having any sort of logic in fights.

But this goes beyond giving him freedom to draw whatever, I understand Oda won't fully explain haki because it gives him breathing room to make shit up as he goes. Issue is he introduced many forms of haki already but failed to visually distinguish them. There is no telling wtf Luffy is using half the time. This is him failing as a mangaka, this is a visual medium.

I'm not going to make excuse for the visual mess that is COA/COC. The fact that before the VC there were people arguing whether Garp was using aCOC or not on Hachinosu is wild.

idc about Ulti almost forcing Luffy into G4, her portrayal does not warrant being in the same sentence as Doflamingo for example
