Theory IMU is an Imp

European mythological being similar to a fairy or demon
word may perhaps derive from the term ympe, used to denote a young grafted tree
Having originated perhaps with or from the Devil Fruit Tree?

described as troublesome and mischievous more than seriously threatening or dangerous
The attendants of the devil are sometimes described as imps
IMU as the servant/RHM of the Sea Devil?

impa meant a young shoot or scion of a plant or tree, and later came to mean the scion of a noble house, or a child in general
Fitting, since IMU is a Nerona, from the 20 noble families

it was often used in expressions like "imps of serpents", "imp of hell", "imp of the devil"
self-explanatory

In some religions, they were attendants of the gods
Once serving the D. Gods, then betrayed them, and now acting himself as a God/secretly ruling from those calling themselves new gods (i.e. CDs)

are often thought of as being immortal, they can be damaged or harmed by certain weapons and enchantments, or be kept out of people's homes by wards
JB's haki knot & whatever means the SHs will find to bypass the Gorosei's regen hax

portrayed as lonely little creatures
IMU is always alone in his room

using jokes and pranks to attract human friendship. This often backfired when people became annoyed with the imp's endeavours, usually driving it away
Is that how he lost Lili?

it still often played pranks on its friend, either out of boredom or simply because this was the nature of the imp. This trait led to using the word “impish” for someone who loves pranks and practical jokes
The goofy Nika, Buggy the clown foreshadowed to sit on the throne, and the prankster IMU?

have also been described as being “bound” or contained in some sort of object such as a sword or a crystal ball. In other cases, imps were simply kept in a certain object, and then summoned only when their masters had need of them
Maybe IMU is unable to leave Mariejois?

Imps can be found in art and architecture throughout the world, most of the time carefully and painstakingly hidden and only being found by the most interested and observant of people
The hidden king of the world, known only to those keen enough to look.

Additionally, imps can be categorized as a subset of kobolds, the household spirits like the Klabautermann that repaired the Going Merry.

Interesting. So do you not consider Imu to be the FV as per this? Would he be the harbinger of something greater?
I've never considered IMU to be FV. Either BB is the FV, in his true demonic form, or, like Salah has theorized a few times, IMU is the Orochi to a greater villain who wanted to invade the AK, and used IMU as a pawn.

The possibility I find the most interesting is if BB and IMU are the same entity, or rather, pieces of it. The original demon who was defeated by the first Nika reincarnated as BB and its DF was eaten by IMU, who became a little version of it, hence an imp.
Once BB consumes IMU, the original demon will be restored to its full strength.

So like V and Urizen from DMC becoming Vergil? Sick. I've also been on the BB-consumes-Imu train for a bit. Dimu just doesn't have aura or buildup to be FV.

I like your idea, Imu being the Herald of a greater cosmic horror sounds dope! I just hope it's built well so OP doesn't get hit with Kaguya accusations.

Perhaps this will also be when logia awakenings come into the picture, might be that they represent the counter to greater power in some way.

I stumbled on this game the other day which I think hits pretty closely in regards to how the Nika-BB-IMU dynamic works.

Basically, to stop the all-encompassing Darkness, the protagonist looks for Evil (Majin), which is the only thing that can hurt Darkness.
But ahead of it, to stop the threat of Evil, Darkness' henchmen have cut Evil to bits, and put its powers in magical fruits spread around the world. Only by combining all the DFs with the husk of Evil, can they defeat Darkness.

Great Analysis, and i actually strongly agree with this,
I once said that this World have 10 Characters who mirror SHs, it's like They were chosen to be it's Main Crew and Gifted by God,
Making SH Crew like a Mini Version of them, (For example, Mihawk is World's Zoro and Vegapunk is it's Franky ... etc)

I came to Conclusion that Usopp, Chopper and Jinbe who are only SHs recruited from their Birth Place and also were found living in Isolation, are mirrored by Three Super Major Characters who are living Isolated inside their own Countries

Shirahoshi was kept Alone in Fish-Man Island
Imu is kept Alone in Mary Geoise
Loki is kept Alone in Elbaph

Their Stories are "Same Coin Different Face" with those Three SHs,
We've already seen an Example with Shirahoshi/Otohime & Jinbe/Tiger Flashbacks Mirroring each other,

Same applies to their Isolation, in other words:

1. Jinbe was Isolated because He was a Criminal ---> Shirahoshi was Isolated because of a Criminal
2. Usopp ......... He was a Liar ---> This means Loki is imprisoned because of a Liar
3. Chopper ........ He was a Monster ---> This means Imu is Isolated because of a Monster!

I think BB is our Monster indeed,
I also discovered that Imu have Light-Related Powers, BB cannot become his True Self and cover entire World in Darkness unless that Light/Flame is Absorbed/Extinguished, i won't be surprised if Enies Lobby Sun is Imu's doing keeping whatever is down there from emerging

I honestly never saw CDs as True Villains and never will, They were simply Corrupted + They Act out of Fear
