It wasn't Roger and Garp vs Rocks Pirates, witch each chapter passing I'm more and more sure that it was potentially:
Garp, Sengoku, Tsuru and Roger Pirates vs Rocks Pirates.

Garp and Roger vs Rocks.

Sengoku, Tsuru, Rayleigh, Scopper, and the rest of Roger Pirates vs Big Mom, Kaido, Shiki, Whitebeard, and the rest.

Oda only showed Kaido there next to them vs Garp and Roger coz the 6 are more important plot wise.

It was more like :
Garp and Roger vs Xebec
Ray, Scopper, and some strong VAs vs WB and Shiki
VAs vs BM
Rest vs Kaido, Captain John,...

The way I see it was a solo job btwn Roger and Garp. The likes of Newgate and BM were not around or chose not to interfere in the gangbang.
To be honest though power level wise the God valley incident doesn't make sense. At this point it feels like Oda pulled it out of thin air so us to make Luffy look like he is following in Rogers footsteps when he beats the new Rocks alliance. Remember they said Kaido/Big mom duo are much more stronger than the originals Rock's crew.

I think it waas Garp and Roger vs Rocks.

The other rock pirates like WB, BM, Shiki didn't cooperate and basically weren't fighting to their fullest potential, messing around like mihawk during marineford. Kaido was also a kid then.

Once Rocks was defeated, basically everyone else just left.

Nah, there's a bunch of clues suggesting Oda had this planned for a long time. The Rumbar Pirates being crushed by a terrifying Pirate crew over 50 years ago. Whitebeard shown to be apart of a crew before forming his own. The Blackbeard Pirates crew structure and personality mimicking that of Rocks. (All former Pirate Captains, who don't get along) Captain John's Zombie on Thriller Bark. Whitebeard and Miss Bakins said to be apart of the same crew. Shakky being a famous Pirate over 40 years ago. Hell all of Thriller Bark seeming to be one big prelude and setup for Big Mom and Kaido. Chinjao stating that the Seas were much more dangerous back then.

This stuff has all been setup and for years, but is only noticeable in hindsight. As far as power level wise, it not making sense, this was back before all of them were in their Prime. Kaido and Big Mom were stated to be much stronger now, then they were back then. So much so, that an Alliance between the two of them now, is stated to be stronger than Rocks was.

i don't see any of Rox pirate's being fully loyal tbh Wb even hinted that having too many conqueror haki users caused a lot of problems between them
i fail to see why Wb even joined
captain John probably stole his famous treasure from god valley and betrayed them
Shiki might have taken something and betrayed them as well because he wants to rule the world himself

Whether Rocks motives were dangerous or not I don't think WB would be dick enough to betray his dickhead Captain so no.

1. The image clearly shows Roger&Garp vs Rocks, WB, Kaido and BM
2. Sengoku says they both joined forces and beat Rocks pirates and NOT just Rocks himself.

I also think only rox was defeated. The other pirates like bm wb shiki kaido weren't really going 100% and fled as soon as rox died.

Realistically Roger and garp probably aren't enough to take on

Prime wb
Prime big mom
Prime shiki
And we didn't get any mentions of other major Marines involved

Roger alone did not defeat any of them. I think rox was even stronger than Roger. You have to be just to lead a crew like that. I think it's very similar to blackbeards crew rn. He's leading through power and fear. His commanders are not loyal and would quickly disband if bb lost.

The chapter we learn about this doesn’t specify how many more members of Rocks there were, we don’t know anything about the strength of anyone who isn’t/wasn’t a Yonko (with the nebulous canonity of Shiki as the lone exception), and neither a vice admiral nor a pirate captain would have been foolish enough to take all those monsters on at once without significant backup. Something tells me this will all be expanded upon in the eventual Roger flashback, which may be coming sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I know. My thread title is not inspired by me thinking that they fought alone but I just see a lot of people who don't even allow the possibility of someone fighting alongside Garp and Roger.

I already see some of them here...the Marines are sending entire battleships/small fleets to round up the individual Shichibukai, how the fuck could anyone think that Garp, for all his power/reputation, would be the lone defense sent by the WG? Or that Roger, wildly formidable in his own right, could handle just the ones we know about with a single ally?

This is why I fucking hate the incessant powerscaling around here, it makes certain members of the forum think that a person can take down the most powerful crew of their time with their own two hands. Stop worrying about your headcanon and realize that Oda’s entire message is how nobody can change the world alone!!

We will see more of this i'm sure. For now, I can say as far as perhaps WB or even Shiki was sided with Roger and Garp to put and end to their own captain. Wb because probably he is fed up with the violence that the Rocks pirates did, and Shiki because he wanted to make his own strongest pirate crew.

Rayleigh, Scopper Gaban, Sengoku, Tsuru vs Shiki, Silver Axe, other Rocks member.

Shiki vs Sengoku makes sense since in chapter 0 Sengoku said he personally wants to capture Shiki and told Roger not to interfere. Looks like Sengoku and Shiki have history and that might be in God Valley when Shiki was member of Rocks.

Sengoku didn't take part in the battle of God's Valley. When he was explaining it, it was in a manner of what he had heard, and not from a first hand perspective of actually being there.
