I see akainu to be more of a dragon match then Luffy.

Luffy vs BB and imu is more likely to happen

BB won’t kill shanks yet. He’ll use him to find the fourth poneglyph now that we know Shanks canonically met with Gaban in Elbaf recently.

I have alwasy been skeptical about Shanks and Luffy meeting at all because of the hat thing.

Anyway, I don't see any other option to this:

What is the other battle for the OP between two characters that is "finally" going to happen? And with unexpected results?

I think shanks will ultimately kill himself to give Luffy a chance to win against bb. He’s a Roger foil who killed himself to start the great pirate era. I think shanks will kill himself nerfing BB in the process somehow to end it

Wouldn't "unexpected result" be Shanks winning against Blackbeard?
I think the whole community expects Shanks to lose and die to BB, so if Oda wants to subvert expectations, then that would mean Shanks defeats BB, which I doubt is going to happen

I think those are more theories.

For the flow of the story, the super-hyped Shanks, "father" fo the protagonist dying would be big "unexpected shock".

That really can’t happen except through the stupidest route possible.

Pretty much all factions will have to join together to overthrow the WG. The BB pirates cannot offer a threat even approaching that level.
The Strawhats & allies would have to show stupidity beyond measure to allow the BB pirates to do anything after Imu is overthrown.

Exactly what I mean. What kind of morons would they be to forget that the BB pirates exist? Anyone with a brain would either hold forces in reserve or be monitoring their movements so they have plenty of time to prepare.

Even then, unless EVERY single top fighter is on death’s door they would still more than overmatch the BB pirates.
-Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Dragon, Sabo, Fujitora, Loki, etc for top tiers
- Borderline top tiers (if not legit ones at that point) like Kidd, Law, Yamato. Even the retirees like Rayleigh, Gaban, Sengoku, etc possibly contributing.
Heck, even Hancock alone as long as she’s standing puts half the BB Commanders out of commission.

Even if half of those people are outright dead, the Bb pirates still lose badly when Shiryu is their next best man.

Ancient weapons can’t save BB either since the alliance should have wrested the most powerful one Uranus from the WG…and all they have to do is beat up the bums manning Pluton or holding Shirahoshi for the others.

There’s just no scenario that favours the BB pirates that isn’t dumb as all hell!
