Big fan of kaido here. I think he’s one of the strongest in the story, would solo 98% of the verse, and don’t think luffy would have beat him 1/1 in a fresh fight (now I think he could)

But i still think that image is super misleading and only listed people he fought. It’s also stated kaido lost 7 times so he’s not invincible lol

In a 1 v 1 always bet kaido doesn’t mean he’s undefeated. Think sports. If your favorite team ends the season damn near undefeated are you really gonna bet against them? No cause they always win 98% of the time. Is it possible they can get upsetted? Absolutely

Kaido never lost a true 1v1 since he got his fruit

The last time he lost before Wano arc was at God Valley when he was a rookie

I believe Awakenings can go south at any point

So, if Luffy is in Gear 5, and loses control, he would become like the Awakened Jailer Beasts who lost their minds to their Awakenings (I have a theory about Sugar turning them into toys to break that curse but that's another thread)

If Luffy believed his crew was dead, he would headlong rush in and try to kick ass immediately

Look at Luffy post-Ace's death and post-Kaido blowing up Oden's castle: this is a crazy man ready to die for the sake of violent vengeance

Someone, IMO Teach, is going to kill someone close to Luffy and trigger him losing control of his Awakening.

Kaido straight up asked "Who are you?"

If Luffy thinks his crew/friends are ACTUALLY DEAD, we'll get the real Nightmare Luffy

Thematic foreshadowings are always reversed.
Luffy was the commoner who opposed Skypeia's god --> Luffy turned out to have a godly fruit.
Similarly, him using a temporarily "nightmare" form points to its eventual opposite --> G6 "Dream Luffy"
