Elden Ring

Any one else beat Malenia without any summons? Just solo. Can't remember if I asked before.
Finally did it just a few hours ago, your comment actually motivated me to make a melee-only new run.

Solo'd Malenia at Level 123 with roughly 20 or 30 attempts? Lol.

It was atrocious, and I definitely won't ever attempt to do it again because it's just boring to fight unfair mechanics. Her heal-on-block actually makes Consort Radahn less annoying.

- Nightrider Glaive w/ Impaling Thrust
- Clawmark Seal
- Random shit shield with 100 physical damage negation solely for the bitch's first Waterfowl attack
- Fire + Stance Hardtears

I'm actually glad about the development I've went through so far.

Lvl 123 current me solo'd Malenia without consumables/summons, while Lvl +180 past me with maxed Mimic Tear was getting low-diffed by Niall's two soldiers lol.

How hard is he compared to the third hardest boss in the game now?
Still a pretty big gap, I'm not even sure which boss I would say is 3rd hardest. Off the top of my head maybe Rellana or Bayle? Consort and Malenia are still in another tier of difficulty, I just don't think it's obvious that Consort is harder like it was pre-nerf.

Post nerf Consort is definitely more fair than Malenia but also way more relentless so I think it's subjective what's harder at that point

i definitely want to refight post nerf Consort.

He, Malenia, and Rellana were the only bosses I used spirit ashes for.

though Rellana I had a moonveil so...

Definitely Bayle.

His moveset is ridiculously harder than any other DLC boss, and his hitboxes are peak fuckery compared to even Placidusax. Rellana had way smaller AoE to worry about.

Decaying Ekzykes is the only other dragon beside Bayle that I will never try to bother have a rematch with again.

I would say it goes like this.

Radahn > Bayle > Midra > Messmer > Metyr > Rellana > Gaius > Putrescent Knight > Romina > Scadu Tree

I loved the fight pre-nerf. Lol

Post nerf it’s the same thing imo. They only nerfed like 1-2 attacks which still catch me every time anyway. Lol
Nah they “nerfed” (fixed is a better word) a bunch.

His frame trap cross slash is dodge able and he has longer neutral windows after a bunch of attacks like the bloodflame slash.

His light clones aka his hardest attacks are still more or less the same but they were already consistently avoidable pre nerf

Like I said, I don’t see a difference personally lol. His cross slash is still pretty much unreadable imo.

Bayle still the best fight in Elden Ring. Lol

They added TWENTY FRAMES to the cross slash, that takes it from being literally undodgeable without hugging his right knee to more or less a normal attack.

Visually it’s only a slight change but the frame data is a big deal

I literally can’t even see a difference on the blood attack. Lol

Yeah those changes seem pretty minor, like I said it feels like the same fight to me personally. For comparison pre-nerf Starscourge was an absolute beast, post-nerf Starscourge could be beaten by breathing on him too hard imo.

Still the hardest fight in the game.

I think Malenia is technically harder to no damage than Consort after the nerfs.

Now being harder to no damage =/= being harder generally (otherwise Metyr would be the hardest fight in the game with the phase 2 laser or Ryland with his earthquake but that’s obviously false) so I think it’s debatable

I disagree completely. I can no hit Malenia right now if I want to, I have no idea how some of the attacks from consort phase 2 are supposed to be dodged at all. It’s a newer fight granted but it just seems to me that some of his spammier attacks are just undodgebale.

Which attacks specifically? Most of his attacks in phase 2 are just phase 1 attacks with light trails that will miss it you roll into him.

For his main clone attack after the mini meteors you just have to memorize and count the clones (the first 4 have a set distance so you can outpace/run and the final 5th one will auto track to your location so you dodge and then pause) just like with Malenia’s clones if you get them close in phase 2.

It’s the same idea for the clone barrages following a gravity pull in, they’re unintuitive but if you follow a guide it’s pretty consistent.
