When asked why he became one, Gege Akutami said: when a contract is made with Kenjaku, part of the body becomes a cursed object. For Sukuna, it was his fingers.
Other sorcerers have just one part turned into a cursed object, but Sukuna has multiple. After his death, his corpse was supposedly kept by his follower Uraume, and after Uraume died, the body went missing. So it probably wasn’t buried. Maybe someone dug it up?

So Gojo just lost because he got cocky, Gege admitting that he didn’t have a clue on how to properly beat Gojo. Gojo doing a 1v5 and the author is included 
Whooping and outplaying Sukuna for 5 chapters straight then plot slash arrived. It was also later confirmed that Sukuna’s strongest attack, the nuke, wasn’t enough against Gojo. Pretty interesting, Maho really was the difference maker.
