Nobody can defend that series after its atrocious ending

Bad art—I know it’s an older series but Jesus the art is seriously under cooked compared to contemporaries like DB.

Lack of inspired fights. The Younger Toguro / Yusuke fight is painfully tiring after they stop warming up. It’s a game of; “I have the upper hand,” “No I have the upper hand” “yet now I am at 110% so I have the upper hand!”

There’s really very little going on plot wise until the semi-finals. We don’t see any of the managers schemes, we don’t get much from Genkai until she’s fully revealed in the semi finals. So that’s half the tournament that’s barren.

As far as tournament arcs go it’s very empty of anything interesting and exciting

....I don't even know what to make of this one.

Why tf would the guy with a time limit try to stall? Like how does that even work?

Anyhoo I knew Toei would try and cock this up somehow, but this was not what I was expecting lol.

I'm lowering my expectations for the anime in advance, it feels like the chance of Toei doing Akainu v Whitebeard 2.0 with Kizaru and Luffy is a lot higher now.
Does he think luffy is not trying on gorosei ever ?

I watched the anime so I can't really comment on the art thing, though iirc the manga had nice art. Also that's crazy to compare it to the shonen with arguably THE BEST art and ESPECIALLY fight choreography.
Also, that's.. literally just how fights go? Like this is how it is with almost every single fight Luffy has in OP, for example. I don't think it's bad that they constantly go back and furth and struggle to overcome eachother.
And I disagree. Didn't we get the Toguro brothers' backstory there? Along with Genkai's backstory. Also got a lot of character moments for the main four and Genkai.

The backstory came after the fights happened and is a little cheesy.

Younger Toguro’s students died to a demon, he went on to win the tournament and wish to become a demon as penance for his students dying. Then he wanted someone to finally kill him, then he gets offered a pardon (??!) but opts to go to Hell and have his soul obliterated instead.

And Genkai is brought back. So her death was…. A passing trend

That's a good backstory though. I don't see what's wrong with it.
Also wasn't she only brought back in the anime or am I tripping?
