Itachi didn’t want to fight Jiraiya because Itachi is loyal to Konoha. Part 1 has wacky statements anyways, like Hiruzen > Hashirama and Byakugan > Sharingan. If you take all these statements at face value, you’d have to conclude that Jiraiya > Itachi >> Orochimaru > Jiraiya

Those are not "whack ass statements" those are not the same qualites of statment
