What does anyone exect jinbe to do. Before imu arrived he had no way to hurt any hk and they had the advantage of killing the kids instantly. Post imu arriving he still has no way to damage them and imu enhanced gunko seems far out of his league. If he tries anything in both situations he could easily get himself and the crew with him killed while accomplishing nothing. Sitting tight and trying to analyze the situation is really his only move.
He's not even trying to escape we don't know if he can. I again ask what do you expect jinbe to do here? If he makes a wrong move he can get himself and the crew killed. What do you think jinbe should do when he has 0 control or a way to meaningfully change the current situation? Until we know how the hk regen works zoro sanji or luffy would do just as bad as jinbe is doing rn.
Like I said if he makes a wrong move and forces their attention on the sh's he can get them all killed. Jinbe nor any of the sh's still can't hurt the hk or imu yet so he'd just get them hurt. With the dorry and brogy with other giants getting turned into demons now the rest of the crew is probably coming back within the next few chapters and jinbe with the rest of the crew will start doing stuff then. I'll ask again what do you expect jinbe to do? Dorry and brogy easily got turned into demons. There's nothing saying imu couldn't do it to jinbe and the other sh's to or just out right kill them.

I literally did that in my first post. The strawhats wouldn't have been captured, and Gaban then wouldn't have to 1vs2 2 HK's and Colon would not have been held hostage.
Like even in the worst case scenario only Sanji would be captured out of the group as he gets the others away. Gaban had to be taken out or Imu Gunko wouldn't be here right now.

He is good as a utility crew member and he is decently strong too. Utility in the sense that he can put out fire, control currents and stuff and like that plus he is deceptively smart and well informed in world affairs. He is severely lacking though as a 1 vs 1 combatant to he honest. Especially against YC and above calibre of fighters.
His best use would've been underwater battles against many ships (like you know on Egghead against 100 Battleships). But carrying boxes was more important..

Hence why Oda removed him from the situation.
Also you seem to be forgetting he is basically immortal too. The HKs boss Nasjuro couldn't hurt him either, he simply regenerated.
