For me Naruto fans are worse, because they have to pretend that it was a perfect series without a single flaw. Since Naruto was "Ninja Harry Potter" and they aren't allowed to like Harry Potter anymore, they have become super defensive of Naruto.

I get why Naruto fans do that though, their series has taken so much shit over the years. It was cool to shit on Naruto.

One Piece is just scratching the surface in terms of scrutiny and the cult like fanbase can't even handle that much. They want to live in delusion.

I did hear that OP got more popular because of everyone getting stuck inside on account of the coof and such. But yeah what you said is correct too.

I guess it also helps that OP does have a lot of characters with interesting and colourful playstyles.

Plus even at his worst Oda is at least still massively better at powerscaling than most comic book writers lol. He's inconsistent w.r.t feats but he at least tries to maintain some structure.

Compared to dudes like Jason Aaron or Donny Cates Oda is very invested in consistent power levels lol.

Yeah that would make a LOT of sense, I saw people talking about rewatching/rereading One Piece around that time or getting into it to pass the time during lockdown too. Being at home 24/7 would give them the time to catch up naturally and binge so they can be like us and whinge weekly then /s.

Totally Not Mark had that massive ongoing series of him reading and reviewing each arc from start to present day too I believe, like 100ks of views on the videos maybe? So that would ahve spurred a ton of new readers for OP too naturally and then the live action would have boosted numbers of new readers, as I've seen people online say they got into OP because of the LA and they love it even more now.

Aye, I've seen how ludicrously extreme comic book powerscaling gets and thats one of the main reasons by far why I don't get into comics and avoid them like the plague, despite being a shameless superhero lover. And I did love comics growing up, but more so goofy stuff like Asterix and Obelix especially, which I collected a ton of at one point. I've been watching some Asterix films online and loving them, the XXL2 game is fun too, I need to play the other games as well. XXL2 actually straight up plagiarised the red bumpers from the Sonic games too lololol. But you also have Romans with Mario's moustache, cap and FLUDD pack from Sunshine and some other game references so its all very tongue in cheek too ofc.
