It's clear Oda heavily enjoyed Expedition 33 as well. Imagine Oda wanting to give Xebec a generic design, then he saw the protagonist and antagonist of Expedition 33 and thought "Damn, I have to copy that!"

Gigachad Clair Obscure took turn-based aspect, threw in some souls concepts, and I immediately fell in love with it.

Not to mention; it's a COMPLETE game with no shitty EA/UbiAss transactions.

Sorry for not responding sooner and thanks for the tag invite, I'm definitely in now. I love Xebec so much now, absolutely fantastic character. I didn't like him being Blackbeards father originally nor his design but both have grown on me massively now, the fact he recruits everyone via Davy Back Fights and thus is the biggest Davy fan aside from the unstoppable champion Foxy himself, has sword attacks like cannon fire (and Garps legendary punches) and is such a truly chaotic neutral, extremely fuck it we ball, YOLO, fearlessly, relentlessly ambitious character really sold him to me.

Hrs the ultimate pirate character in this fraudulent, wild goose chase, wizard of Oz/emperors new clothes type story and I should have expected the father of the most ambitious, unpredictable, chaotically awesome, cunningly charming, admirably insidious etc characters in the series and even other series that have existed too, would be just as much of an absolutely unforgettably and impossible to ignore Legend like his son if not more ofc.

In other words, ACTUAL GOD TIER WRITTEN CHARACTER WITH NO MISERY FETISH, TRAUMATIC, BLEAK ETC BACKSTORY TO BE A CRUTCH FOR HIM!

Although I do really sympathise with Lokis backstory in my own personal way, but I digress. In some ways I much rather he would get Loki on the crew actually especially instead of San Juan Wolf but anyway.

Trust Rocks to have the greatest, most awesome, badass, diverse and interesting crew too. To have that many women in his crew too and absolutely gorgeous hotties too? EXTREMELY BASED!

To add as well, a lot of fanart is giving him black and white hair and that's perfect too, great "foreshadowing"/symbolism of his son getting the Yami yami and gura gura, the latter from one of his own "wings" too ironically lmao.

Also symbolising yin and yang to show Xebecs chaotic neutral morality, not truly evil but not a good guy either ofc but he has respect, morals, integrity to some degree. Man tried to free slaves and prevent Harald from getting enslaved too, plus killed an Admiral and probably tons of incestials ultimately.

Oda has finally written the character Roger was always meant to be. Or Kaido even.

His flashback along with Harald and Loki neg diff Odens so fucking hard too, deservedly.
