Is Boruto NOT CANON?!

#1
Hi, I stumbled upon a thread in Comicvine and Idk if this information is real or not but apparently, Kishimoto doesn't even view Burrito as canon:

So all the years I was actually correct by stating Burrito is non canon? Because y'all can hardly claim it's still Kishimoto's story when Ikemoto is completely in charge of the story and main illustrations, as Kishimoto said.

Wow, nobody told me that yet? Please tell me this is not fake. This is incredible news! :finally:

This doesn´t change the fact that Boruto is official and canon, just that Kishi is obviously semi retired now. But If Shueisha wants it to be canon, it is.
Post automatically merged:

The events of Boruto are not canon, correct. But chapter #700 is sadly canon so the kids are not going anywhere, just this interpretation of them. Uub v. Maj uub basically.
It´s all canon...

In legal terms, whatever constitutes canon is at the discretion of rights holders, which in this instance would be Shueisha.

In real terms, barring any condition restricting such speech, there's nothing Shueisha or any publisher can do if the author expression an opinion and fans adhering to it.

For example, if George Lucas said he doesn't consider Disney's sequel trilogy canon to the original story, and the majority of fans were to treat that as a gospel, there wouldn't be anything Disney could do about it unless Lucas signed terms he wouldn't use such language.

it's just a japan thing

kishi is saying ikemoto is doing it all himself. that kishi is not helping from behind the scenes. That ikemoto is not taking credit for kishi's work.

it's supposed to be a compliment. if you straight up asked kishi if burrito is canon, he would say yes regardless of his own feelings towards it. Cause once again, japanese culture compels him not to trash it.

This has nothing to do with Japanese culture, lmao
