Character Discussion Doffy might get a redemption in the final war

Out of all the CD families, the Don Quixote family is unique in that members of the family have repeatedly shown themselves to be good people.

The one exception is Doffy. However Doffy’s character has always had a certain marine in the periphery. Tsuru. She chased him in their youth and was ultimately the one who arrested Doffy after Luffy beat him.

Tsuru has a peculiar power. She can “wash” people, removing some of the evil from their heart.

What if she did this to Doffy after his arrest? Obviously this wouldn’t cause a complete 180 character change. But what if Tsuru purified Doffy just enough for him to do an act of good at an integral moment in the final war?

If Oda were to write this, I think it would be the perfect ending for Doffy’s character. Doing an act of good and dying a martyr, just like the rest of his family.

It wouldn’t undo the evil Doffy has done. But it would show that evil people can change. Something Oda showed with Doffy’s cousin Myosgard.

I have to disagree with this take. The point of Homing, Myosgard and Corazon is not that Doffy´s family are supposed to be the nice guys of the celestial dragons, except for maybe Homing, the point is that the celestial dragons are ultimately at some level, just products of their environments, and with greater experience/understanding, they can as a group change. This does not translate to Doflamingo, who has been removed from Mariejois for most of his life

This is what Doffy believes after being on the surface world for decades, completely the opposite of Myosgrad who changed his views after briefly being shown kindness.

Doflamingo is someone who has since his naive father ruined his families life, has resented, just fundamentally the idea of being empathetic. According to Corazon, he might as well have been born evil. Even Tsuru can´t fix that.

Yeah, CDs have always been a product of their environment. I always wondered what would happen to them after the war is over. I guess the vast majority of them will undergo rehabilitation, but they should also pay for their crimes in one way or another. Don’t know how Oda will balance that.

Doflamingo is a psychopath, not sure the ability would work, maybe temporarily but as he can’t feel empathy it won’t work on the long run.

I know he killed Homing but he will eventually become broken man and live a guilt life . Eitherway Doflamingo wont play much of a role in final saga , he is done narratively . I feel he could have been great as Holy knight not warlord .

obviously Doffy can’t turn into myosgard or homing

But I think there has to be some effect of Tsuru’s power on him. Perhaps Imu makes him a HK after the elbaf HKs fail, only for Doffy to betray Imu in the end. If only due to selfish reasons.

Given what he went through, it's obvious he turned into a villain. It's easier to give in to those sides.

Nobody is born evil. Other family members also redeem ththemsleves hard to say there good from the beginning
