I actually went back to MF and looked at the average Akainu panel and yes I have to double down on this. While the panel I posted is sexy af the vast majority of Akainu’s post ts panels are just an insult to Admiral Akainu. Oda couldn't draw an ugly panel of clean shaven Akainu.
Obviously this also has to do with the general decline in art consistency.

Ngl if Akainu had his beard back then about 80% of Whitebeard's blows would have been absorbed into it.
The facial hair is crucial when you're a soldier. There's a reason people like Jarul have those big ass beards.
(Also he still looks much better with facial hair, if he ever doesn't then it's just the art itself being worse like you said)
