Some Pokémon fans use the same shitty argument
"The old games aren’t better, it’s just nostalgia"
Exactly they cannot accept newer and more convoluted, complex, oversaturated or flanderised is better.

I actually prefer much newer versions of games usually but Pokemon my god, I've wanted to get back into it but like 1000 pokemon unironically or close to it and such convoluted, meticulous mechanics now? fuck that! I quit around Ruby and Sapphire, it peaked around there for me.

They don't understand the beauty of simplicity at times.

Doesn't apply to everyone.
Again, it will be a matter of different people having different opinions.

Pre time skip left us with more mysteries instead of explaining them.
Post time skip is solving it one by one.
I understand the crew dynamics have changed, but nothing we didn't already see coming. That's an average Shounen plot right there, to start focusing on the MC more than his side characters.

The amount of lore we are getting in post-time skip is much higher than pre-time skip.
The amount of adventure has decreased, yes.

For me, Wano would still stand as the best arc overall. I know the majority won't agree, but that's when I started manga.

I binged-watched the entire show before that.
post timeskip is 100x better. one piece is a manga that only gets better as it develops and the plot expands and questions get answered. enies lobby washed everything else in pre-timeskip up to that point. dressrosa washed everything pre timeskip. every single arc after dressrosa was even better than that one

I quit during Gen 6 I think
I never completed X&Y

Goda apologists can't talk about "nostalgia" when the new arcs are more than double the chapter numbers while the overall writing took a huge hit as well. Fights are barely relevant anymore, just a bunch of Haki clashes, nothing more.
its an adventure manga not a martial arts manga. go read kengan asura if you want to see hundreds of chapters in a row of nothing but fight scenes, thats a great manga

No it’s not nostalgia, at least not for me
I reread the pre ts arcs because I wanted to know if nostalgia blinded me
Pre ts OP is sooooo much better, I enjoyed it a lot
The SHC members have a better dynamic, are better characters, each of them has importance and they feel alive
The comedy is peak
The art is way cleaner and the panelling too
The side characters are actually important
and there’s a feeling of adventure
Yep, for me its definitely more sunk cost and and just being engaged with the series for basically 20 years at this point.

There is definitely good shit (Kuma's backstory, bigger plot revelations that move the story forward in scary ways like the Mother Flame or Harley Text, character designs in general) but its mixed in with things that to me arent nearly as engaging anymore and its half the reason I am not participating in discussions on a weekly basis here lol.

Like take fights. Even if Oda wasnt best in class with them, as a younger artist he clearly was more interested in them then now. This was pretty standard expectations for him through Dressrosa. Then largely only Luffy gets fights through the next 100 chapters. Then Wano lasts 150 chapters but the actual fight payoff for some characters was personally not well developed or too short. Though 50 chapters fighting Kaido was alright, him and BM go down without using Awakening at all was absolutely ridiculous and almost contradictory. He hasnt even answered questions from the fanbase on this.

Egghead was the world offender. Lets hype 9 Vice Admirals and Kizaru with Saturn, only to not even use half of them and not give Kizaru/Saturn a focused fight. Kizaru literally does nothing new. Yes, we know Kizaru was canonically helping Luffy and we know Luffy couldnt defeat Saturn since he was immortal, but the entire escape sequence is just impact after impact and nothing directly engaging that resembles a fight.

Elbaf now worries me because while its characters, setting and this Flashback are great, there are only 3 actual villains here and one of them (Imu) definitely wont lose in a tangible way. So in a way we are kind of repeating what happened in WCI and Egghead. Now if Imu summons Shamrock and all of the HKs back here then thats a different story, but Im not expecting that at all now.

EXACTLY! It's shallow hype, pretentiousness, agenda/rage/gooner baiting for the most part. It's shameless.

I keep thinking about how Wano was the entire length of many "long" series. 150 chapters on one arc....JFC....I had similar issues with SBR being overly long in Jojo but it was far better written than Wano easily.

We had amazing story arcs in 40 chapters at most maybe, possibly 50 idk but even something like logue town which was ONLY 5 chapters managed to give us so much and really entertain us and leave an unforgettable mark on us too. in just a handful of chapters. Reverie chapters did the same thing in 6 chapters and repeated itself with the updated flashback to it too.

Post TS one piece is like thinking buffet food is gourmet dining culture. that it's all carefully handcrafted and made with love entirely.

Fuck man, post TS is immensely quantity over quality and we didn't need arcs to go on for literal years with so much blatantly egregious stalling and baiting.
